View Trustee Position
Nottinghamshire Deaf Society is a registered charity based in Nottingham. Formed in 1890 by a group of philanthropic church and community leaders, it was their vision for a society in which all deaf people can fully participate.
The success of the charity today is built on the wonderful history and rich culture of the deaf community. A bridge between a hearing and deaf world, we give deaf people access to a range of tailored information and support services such as welfare benefits advice training, social clubs and befriending schemes and with a team of British Sign Language Interpreters on hand to provide vital support in times of crisis and need.
Board member with Finance Experience
In recent years the Board has informally appointed an Honorary Treasurer to act as a point of reference or guide for financial matters. Responsibility for the financial monitoring and activity remains the responsibility of the whole board but having an individual with relevant skill and experience helps the board to form decisions, interpret information and oversee the financial administration.
We are now looking to recruit a Director (Trustee) to our Board, who has the necessary time and energy to devote to our charity and who can contribute their skill and know how to enhance the effective running of the organisation. We are keen to appoint a professional and passionate individual who has valuable skills such as charity finance management, financial and management accounting, strategic development and who are willing to commit to our vision and values.
This is a voluntary role. NDS directors are asked to commit to a three-year term and are initially co-opted to the Board pending election at the AGM. Expenses can be reimbursed and it is expected to require approximately one day per month of your time. This would include attendance at board meetings (currently 6 pa held in early evening) and membership of a Finance sub-committee (currently meets 4 pa held daytime). We also hold an AGM in November or December. All meetings are held in Nottingham.
