View Trustee Position
Green Shoots Foundation's purpose is to foster Sustainable Development by promoting holistic programmes that combine Economic Development with Food & Agriculture, Education or Medical Aid. By working with local partners, we implement synergistic/multi-purpose programmes to break poverty cycles. The foundation was established in October 2010 and has so far rolled out three major programs in six countries.
Food, Agriculture & Social Entrepreneurship (FASE) in Cambodia and The Philippines
Medical Assistance and Medical Education (MAME) in Myanmar, Vietnam and Kyrgyzstan Education Loans and Social Entrepreneurship (ELSE) in India.
This trustee position is based in the UK and related to to our FASE initiative in Cambodia. Green Shoots Foundation launched this initiative in 2012 aiming to engage youth and demonstrate to them that a rural economy can be thriving and help provide for families.
The initiative has been designed according to three stages below:
Stage I: Food & agriculture vocational vegetable gardens in schools and education centres; Stage II: Sponsorship of students for food & agriculture vocational training.
Stage III: Investment in rural food & agriculture social enterprises for young entrepreneurs
Since 2012 we have rolled out an Agriculture Skills in Public Schools Project which has seen 42 school vegetable gardens, 47 teachers trained as school garden managers and nearly 5,000 students trained to set up and tend horticultural spaces.
We are currently making the transition from Stage I to Stage II and, to achieve that, establishing an agriculture skills training centre which will focus on sustainable agriculture, agroecology and other rural development skills.
Overall Purpose: To contribute towards fundraising efforts and strategy, with regards to the FASE program. The Trustee will join a reputable board comprised of doctors that guide our medical programs, entrepreneurs and individuals from the financial sector.
Bring a fresh perspective to fundraising plans and strategy and support the organisation’s fundraisers.
To ensure fundraising for this program is of the highest standard and priority.
Contributing knowledge of agriculture/ sustainable development knowledge towards the initiative
Network on behalf of the charity to solicit funds and be an active champion of the organisation to build constructive partnerships
Build relationships and rapport between Board and staff
Encourage an entrepreneurial fundraising culture
Attend quarterly online board meeting
Someone with good knowledge on alternative agriculture practices, small-scale farming and agronomy.
Someone with sufficient fundraising/income-generation knowledge and/or business development background or having run a medium size business.
Good understanding of training programs and management
