Living Water Satisfies
  • Need

    Need

Children are the witnesses and often hidden victims of domestic violence. In some cases, the children themselves will suffer physical or sexual abuse from the same perpetrator. Furthermore, all children witnessing domestic violence are being emotionally abused. But some mothers and children use silence or denial to try to cope with the abuse. But most children appreciate an opportunity to acknowledge the violence and to talk about what they are feeling.

    Solution

The Stay & Play group will be offering opportunities for survivors of domestic violence to join together with their children to play & interact with others through music, drama, painting and art activities. Through the Stay & Play group we will encourage children to talk to their mothers about their wishes and feelings. We’ll do this by encouraging the mothers to do activities with their children, and encouraging the children to draw or write about what is happening and how they feel about it.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

Setup a Stay and Play group for victims of domestic violence and their children.

    Activities

» Run fun activities such as painting, drawing & singing nursery rhymes to help survivors of domestic violence & their children to communicate better.

Success will be for mothers to interact & communicate better with their children as well as making friends, building confidence, self-esteem & feel part of their local community.

  • Impact

    Impact

The project idea is quite simply to help survivors of domestic violence interact better with their children and other adults, which will result in more women accessing community resources they might need to maximize their safety and their children’s well-being which in long-term would be expected to lead to reduced domestic violence and increased well-being.

    Risk

Lack of funding. We have set up an income generating activity to help us raise funds to support our programmes and activities.

    Reporting

We will report to donors through a regularly updated page on our website.

  • Background

    Location

LWS is based in Crystal Palace which is a meeting point for the Boroughs of Lambeth, Southwark, Bromley, Croydon and Lewisham, and provides practical help and emotional support for the most vulnerable women living in these Boroughs. At the centre of our work is our ability to work with isolated, vulnerable and frightened women through various activities that promote community-based solutions to eliminate domestic violence and promote healthy families.

    Beneficiaries

LWS was established in response to a concern at the lack of culturally sensitive support for women from the BME communities experiencing domestic violence. Our clients, who are mostly from BME communities, are over-represented amongst those taking longer to recover from the effects of living with domestic violence. The primary beneficiaries of the Stay & Play group would be survivors of domestic violence and their children living in Crystal Palace and the surrounding five Boroughs we operate in.

  • Why Us?

    Why Us?

Women from BME communities, in particular, suffer from domestic violence in silence because of the lack of culturally sensitive services available to support them. That is where our LWS comes in, which provides not only culturally sensitive services to our multicultural clients but also offers a range of holistic, practical & emotional support to women. we actively involve our users in the planning and development of all our projects and activities to appropriately support and meet their needs.
