  • Need

Consumer debt results in stress, poor health and family breakdown and undermines efforts to reduce child poverty, unemployment and homelessness. Our Eyes on Debt project is intended to raise awareness of debt related issues and help people in our community who are in debt or in danger of getting into debt. We will be running a series of debt advice and money management workshops covering a wide range of money issues affecting people in our communities.

The primary goals LWS plans to achieve through the workshops are to:
    - improve financial literacy of local people, and give them more confidence in managing their money and making better financial choices

    - give them the knowledge and skills to use credit wisely, know how to avoid getting into debt and make the most of their income

    - give them tips on making their money go further, and help identify ways to maximise their income

  • Aims

    Aim 1

Improve financial literacy of local people

» Run weekly debt management and basic money management skills workshops so as to help local people who are in debt or in danger of getting into debt.

Success will be fostering debt free life style among local people particularly poorest groups.

  • Impact

LWS will train its staff and volunteers in the areas of debt management and basic money management and by training our staff and volunteers we would be able to provide accurate information and practical, hands-on advice on dealing with debt and budgeting to help free people in our community from stress and financial worries. The success of our work is judged, ultimately, by how much long-lasting and tangible impact is made on the people’s lives.

Lack of funding. We have set up an income generating activity to help us raise funds to support our programmes and activities.

We will report to donors through a regularly updated page on our website.

  • Why Us?

    Why Us?

The need for this project is apparent from the interest being shown by the residents in our community. Through meetings and consultation with members of the community; we came to learn that debt is a major problem for many in our community and can cause and has caused family breakdowns, loss of homes and possessions, disruption to their work and careers, depression, and even suicide. Therefore, we are planning to run workshops that can be offered throughout the year in our Community Cafe.
