  • Need

Lack of opportunities for senior citizens' own memories of aspects of social history to be preserved

By going on tour - listening to the elderly and recording their memories which are then transcribed. A book and MP3 tracks are produced.

The book and tracks are donated to local archives, libraries & local hospital radio & the Blind Talking Newsletter for broadcast.

Success will be... measured by (hard copy outcome) the produced book and MP3 tracks and the feedback from the groups taking part

  • Impact

Long term changes: hopefully the validity of the memories of the elderly will be displayed. Their self-esteem will be boosted.

Success: the delight on the faces of the people whose memories appear in the books when they first see their stories in print is simply wonderful.

Every town ought to be doing what we do. Once these old folks are gone so is a very large slice of British social history. This is living oral heritage and it's fast disappearing.

Risks: The old folks are dying quicker than we can get to them. So many groups want us to work with them we are in danger of being swamped with requests.

RBW always tries to work with new groups so as many as possible have the chance to be recorded.

Donors can have an evaluation report if they want one.

All the workshops - video and photographs - appear on our websites.

We can incorporate their logos on our website pages/online bulletin and list them as a Donor on our letter headings.

They can come along to the workshops!
