Learning Disabled Students need regular activities and innovative approaches to encourage their participation. Ohel Sarah support 400 students from the ages of 6 till the end of life. Funding is being sought to support "the extras",
January 2013 - December 2016
Students who have a disability, some with extreme challenging behaviour, cannot always be assisted through conventional methods. Ohel Sarah have developed tailor-made programmes to support the individual child to assist in their progress.
By preparing personalised development plans, we tap into the lives of our students and prepare therapies to support their disabilities.
To recognise the abilities of each individual student.
Activities» Assess each student and prepare a tailor made programme for their development plan.
» Ensure all staff involved with the student contribute to his development through their lessons and therapies..
» Discuss and involve parents and siblings in our approach and methods and encourage feedback.
At our monthly meetings, we assess the individual student's development and renew the programme for the following months.
To ensure every child, however challenging, is accommodated with love and professionalism.
Activities» Respect the student and reach out to support him, however vulnerable.
Every member of staff fills in a report of her approach to his/her students in her care. Every incident, is recorded and acted upon ensuring continued positive interaction.
To pioneer new ideas such as our morpho syntax in colour - reading with symbols.
Activities» Encourage the staff and child to use symbols and colour to communicate with their family and friends.
» Augmentative Communication Method has now been implemented across Ohel Sarah, for those students troubled and locked in their own world.
This communication method has been adopted across Ohel Sarah and is extremely successful in communicating with those limited in speech and language.
To discover hidden talents and strengths.
Activities» Continue providing opportunities for drama, animal therapy, music, swimming that hast has had a visible impact on the growth of the independent child.
We are amazed at the wide range of talents in our special students. Our goal is to continue to bring out the best of every child.
To encourage integration and friendship in the community.
Activities» Those reaching 21 years are now at the crossroad and benefit from our training and employment schemes.
The neighbours of our residential units have become an integral part of the development of our Residents. Our employment placement scheme has involved the community willingly.
1. Given the tools, support and encouragement many of our students will successfully integrate into the community.
2. Our students will have a structure and schedule to the day/week.
3. Ohel Sarah are alleviating the pressure on their families/carers.
4. The students of Ohel Sarah will feel worthy members of the community.
Complacency and lack of funds are our concern. Our staff attend regular workshops to ensure our methods, approaches are in line with current thinking. Lack of funds hinder our drive for modernity and we welcome suggestions from interested parties.
We pride ourselves in involving our donors and reporting on all developments at Ohel Sarah. We invite you to visit Ohel Sarah and learn about our work and share our many success stories
