UK Youth Bursary Fund
To create a bursary fund to enable young people from all over the UK to access our headquarters and activity centre, Avon Tyrrell in the New Forest and for young people to attend our annual youth led conference.
This is an ongoing project.
Charity information: UK Youth
We want all young people to have access to Avon Tyrrell Activity Centre, with a particular emphasis on young people who rarely get a break or have never been to the countryside before.
We also want to offer young people a chance to access our annual youth led conference and to get involved with the youth led organisation, UK Youth Voice which is part of UK Youth.
Bursaries will offer young people the opportunity to try new activities & have new experiences, both physically & mentally.
At Avon Tyrrell young people can enjoy a range of exciting outdoor activities such as climbing, canoeing, archery & raft building, to name but a few.
At the UK Youth Voice conference young people will meet other young people from around the UK, share experiences, join in sessions & makes friends.
Both opportunities will build confidence, team work & self esteem.
To enable young people the chance to have an exciting break away from home.
Activities» By enabling them to have an activity break at Avon Tyrrell or at the annual UK Youth Voice conference.
Success will be...young people taking up the offer of a bursary place and taking part in activities/sessions.
To instil confidence, resilience, self esteem and team work within the young people who take part.
Activities» Taking part in outdoor activities & sessions. Both activities enable young people to work with each other & push individual boundaries.
Success will be...young people leave us feeling more confident in their abilities, wanting to try new activities and having made new friends.
These breaks enable young people to build key life skills which, particularly with young people from disadvantaged backgrounds, may be lacking.
They will have confidence in their abilities and want to try new activities once they have left or in the case of UK Youth Voice become a member, enabling further opportunities.
Young people complete a questionnaire after their stay which helps us to work out what they enjoyed & what they would like changed - enabling us to build on the experience.
Young people feeling homesick/parents feeling concerned about their child being away from home.
All UK Youth staff are fully experienced and trained thoroughly working with young people. Risk assessments are produced for every activity and checks carried out before and after each session.
All staff are CRB checked and we have thorough safeguarding policies in place.
We will contact donors every six months to let them know how many young people have made use of the bursary scheme and can send copies of feedback forms the young people themselves complete. We can also send photographs of activities (with parental consent).
