Project information

Information, Advice and Guidance

We wish to provide an Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) service that integrates seemlessly with the volunteering and counselling services we currently offer.

Young people seeking IAG rarely present with a single need. Our integrated service would ensure we can meet ALL their needs.

  • Need

Young people in our local Boroughs face multiple difficulties, including a lack of affordable housing, unemployment in a time of uncertainty, and a lack of knowledge around matters of health, especially sexual health.

Teenage pregnancy, unemployment, drug use, and knife crime are all very real problems in our neighbourhood. Much of this is due to a lack of information, or a lack of approachable sources of aid.

We will provide the information our young people need, along with advice and guidance that will help them solve their own problems, rather than relying on us.

Our aim is to EMPOWER our young people to make the best decisions about their lives and to overcome any difficulties they encounter.

Housing our service alongside a free counselling service and volunteer placement scheme means we can be sure our young people get all the help they need as they head into adulthood.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

To empower young people to make helpful decisions about their lives.

» Running an Information, Advice and Guidance service that can steer young people through rocky waters no matter the difficulties they are having.

    What success will look like

    Success will be...
When young people we help feel able to leave the service and tackle their difficulties themselves.

    Aim 2

To assist young people with a variety of practical problems, particularly housing issues.

» Our Information, Advice and Guidance service follows-up all clients to ensure they are doing the best they can with the information we give them.

    What success will look like

    Success will be...
When those problems are either navigated around or overcome (ie, a young person is found a hostel bed).

  • Impact

The increase in responsible, empowered young people within the local community can be expected to have an indirect benefit for the friends, families and colleagues of those young people.

Success is predominantly demonstrated through client testimony and feedback.

Predominant risks are that young people will not know of our services. A marketing strategy is in place, aiming to obtain maximum exposure for minimum cost.

A quarterly newsletter is sent to all supporters. News will also be placed on our website. Where donations are for specific projects, news of those projects will be sent to the relevant donors.

  • Background

We are located near Elephant and Castle, where we have been since 1979.

We work across Southwark, Lambeth and Lewisham, some of the most deprived Boroughs in London. Unemployment, teenage pregnancy, violent crime and early death are common. Housing is scare, and poverty of ambition is prevalent. Many young people here are born into jobless families, and without our help they will not know how to make the best choices for their own futures.

The primary beneficiaries are the young people themselves, who are empowered to find a roof over their heads, to know their rights, to find education or employment, and to escape the generational poverty of the area they grew up in.

Indirectly, the whole community benefits from the growth of a generation of able, confident young people.

  • Why Us?

We have moved with the times and adapted our service to the changing needs of young people and the changing world.
