EXTRA STAFF URGENTLY NEEDED FOR NEW NEONATAL UNIT

Leicester Royal Infirmary Neonatal Unit has recently undergone a £9.3m refurbishment giving them state of the art facilities for premature and poorly babies. Due to the huge increase in size of the amount of babies the neonatal unit can take we urgently need to recruit more staff to support parents

October 2010 - December 2016

  • Need

    Need

Our current Family Support Worker cannot support all the parents of premature and poorly babies due to the increase in size of the new neonatal unit. More and more parents need our help, support and advise over this traumatic emotional time - the babies get the best medical care in the UK but who supports the parents we do!

    Solution

By increasing the nunmber of Family Support workers fromm one to three this will enable us to give the parents the support they need and continue to cover Leicester General Neonatal unit as well as the one at Leicester Royal Infirmary. Too many babies, too many distraught parents and currently only one Family Support Worker. By increasing the numbr of staff will ensure that every parents get the help and support they need

  • Aims

    Aim 1

To recruit two additional Family Support Workers

    Activities

» We are concentrating all our efforts to raise money to increase the number of Family Support Workers but desperately need help to achieve this aim

Success will be..able to support over 1,300 emotional and distraught parents of premature and poorly babies

  • Impact

    Impact

This will enable us to give each parent the support they need to help them cope with the good and day days, everyday is different, some parents dont know from hour to hoour whether their baby will survive, we give them the support to help them cope with good and bad news, speak to medical staff on their behalf, organise transport anf accommodation for out of town parents, organise childcare for siblings, even just being a shoulder to cry on whatever they need we try to help

    Risk

Due to the increase in size of the new unit and trying to cover this and the other Leicester unit we know that our current Family Support Worker is unable to give ech parent the help and support they need. We are actively trying to fundraise to enable us to increase the number of support staff so we get to support everyone whether their baby is on the units for one day , one month or one year. Some vulnerable parents who need vital support could get missed

    Reporting

We would constantly update any Donors on the number of parents we have helped. We would invite them to see our work first-hand and to attend any other fundraising activities. We run support groups for mums who have gone home with their baby and this is an ideal way to actually get to meet our mums
