Project information

Ongoing neutering and vaccination project 2012

This project aims to ensure that every rabbit arriving at Camp Nibble can be neutered and vaccinated against the fatal diseases myxomatosis and VHD. These are essential components of responsible rabbit ownership, and requirements before our rescue rabbits can be re-homed

This project will be ongoing.

  • Need

Many rabbits suffer needlessly as their welfare is not adequately met. Neutering and vaccinations are simple veterinary procedures that are essential to prevent unnecessary suffering in rabbits and ensure that their welfare is best met.

Through vaccinating all of our rabbits we will prevent rabbits from needlessly suffering and dying from the fatal diseases of myxomatosis and VHD. Through neutering we will prevent the unnecessary suffering of rabbits by preventing unwanted, irresponsibly bred litters, eliminating incidences of uterine cancers, ensuring that all rabbits have appropriate companionship of their own kind, and reducing incidences of behavioural problems.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

Ensuring all rabbits arriving at Camp Nibble are vaccinated and neutered (health status allowing).

» Vaccinate all rabbits against myxomatosis and VHD.
» Neuter all rabbits (health status allowing).

    What success will look like

Success will be ensuring that we can fund the successful vaccination and neutering of every rabbit accepted into the rescue shelter.

  • Impact

No rabbits at Camp Nibble will needlessly suffer from uterine cancers, or the fatal diseases of myxomatosis and VHD. No Camp Nibble rabbits will be able to contribute to the huge numbers of unwanted rabbits competing for the resources of rescue shelters and suffering needlessly through irresponsible breeding.

There is a risk of rising veterinary costs. We have dealt with this risk by ensuring that we maintain excellent relationships and communication with our trusted veterinary practices. This allows us to negotiate competitive discounts.

An annual report will be emailed to donors.

  • Background

Camp Nibble rescues rabbits throughout Yorkshire and occassionally other areas of the UK.

The main beneficiary will be the rabbits that we help (estimated at 150 per year).

New owners will also benefit from responsible pet adoption/ownership.

  • Why Us?

    Why Us?

Rabbits have been identified as the most neglected animal currently in the UK. However, there are very few rabbit rescue charities operating in the Yorkshire area. Our rabbit care experience, passion for animal welfare and our relationships with excellent veterinary practices make us ideally placed to carry out this project.
