  • Need

There is no acceptable medical facility in the village and surrounding area. The building they have is bat infested and quite disgusting. The next nearest facility is in Aklokou some 18 km away and that too is horrible! The nearest major facility is some 2 hours away. For this village and the surrounding area to survive, even prosper they need the basics including clean water which we have already supplied but they must have some decent health care. Illness and other similar problems are rife.

Together with the villagers and there relations in the capital (Lome) we have a plan to completely refurbish the existing building and then supply all the basic equipment, drugs, fixtures and fittings they need. We are in touch with experts in remote medical facilities as well as suppliers etc. Again with the involvement of the villagers we are then going to train 2 or 3 people from the village in basic health care/nursing to provide the expertise required. We have the req'd contacts and skills

  • Aims

    Aim 1

Provide a remote area in Togo of some 4000 people with basic health care and child birth facilities.

» Provide a clean buildling by removing the existing of bats and making it bat proof, providing a new roof, ceilings, windows, tiled walls and floors.
» To provide solar powered autoclave, refrigerator, lighting
» Provide all the medications and drugs required and allow them to replace these items as they are used via established micro finance projects.
» To provide them with training and expertise to provide them with qualified staff. Currntly they have one unqualified but willing helper

Success will be the provision of the clean, secure, modern, health facility manned by qualified staff. Thus reducing illness, mortality rate etc. All of these things are measurable

  • Impact

We are providing this village and the surrounding area with a "platform for success" via 4 "legs" namely clean water, micro finance and a refurbished school - all provided. The 4th leg is the provision of a medical facility. This will then form the basis of a sustainable community including a much improved education for children and adults. We are keen to help them become self sufficient by manufacturing and producing goods and services. Health is fundamental to this community prospering

The main risk is that money sent will go "missing". To overcome this we have always only sent money to the one man who is completely trustworthy and has proved so over the past 2 years and with the 3 projects we have already completed. He is the elected "wise person" of the village and of his extended family. We also regularly visit to inspect the projects (at our own expense) and we take with us as many of the required goods with us when we do so thus reducing the risk of things going missing.

We have regular trustees meetings to ensure good governance. We regularly send out emails to all our supporters and our web site is also regularly updated. We have appointed accountants with experiience of charities
We are completely transparent and have no expenses, costs, administration.

  • Background

The village of Agome sevah is c2 hours drive form the capital (Lome) on the river Mono which borders Benin. There is a very poor road as far as Aklokou after which one has to turn off on to a mud road which someitmes gets flooded. There is no electricity, sewage system etc.within 18km of the village. This whole area from Aklokou has been neglected and has no prospect of being supported by anyone. The level of poverty and the prospects for the inhabitants are dire but we are working on it!

The population is 1018 (they had a count up for us). We have asked them to count up how many there are in the surrounding area. We believe that there is at least another 3000 we can help with the clinic. There is no wealth! They have nothing. No businesses, no shops, no infrastructure, no minerals. Nothing. The recent history is one of slow decline as people leave for the capital as there is nothing in the village. They often return with a little family as the capital is no better for many.
