Lishi Infrastructure Development
To develop the infrastructure of Lishi which is a form of Chinese movement and dance for health and wellbeing taught in many charities and not for profit organisations in England and other countries.

Lishi is facing cuts in its income due to reduced public sector funding on education, volunteering and local authorities. In order to continue to provide the volume of classes and teachers currently in place Lishi needs to grow the number of members who pay a fee each year. A SWOT analysis contributing to a new strategy for Lishi has identified that there is much capacity for new participants in the current timetable of classes but that weaknesses in infrastructure are limiting growth.
Lishi has been working with Leeds Trinity University College to analyse it's needs and to develop a strategy for future sustainability. 3 areas for development have been identified: a) to develop the resources for participants to learn Lishi in a blended way via traditional classes and via the internet b) to further develop the teaching skills of teachers and assistants c) to provide business and sustainability skills training to those teachers, assistants, volunteers & trustees who run groups

By developing the infrastructure of Lishi it will ensure that its heritage of being taught, and the momentum of this is continued and developed. This project will make Lishi accessible to more people and as a result increase their health and wellbeing. The financial health of Lishi will also improve making it less dependent on grants and funding. The main demonstration of this will be class registers showing that more people are attending and being retained in classes for longer than currently
There are 2 main risks to this project: 1/ whether there is the capacity and experience to implement the analysis and training required and 2/ that the people involved in running and teaching Lishi are willing to accept the need for improvement and training. To deal with 1 we have recruited the help of Leeds Trinity University College to develop a structured, unitised programme that individuals can step in and out of. For 2 a Survey Monkey analysis has found people's committment to change high.
Each quarter donors will receive, if they wish, a report from the project monitoring meeting that summarises progress against each of the projects aims described using Key Performance Indicators and a coloured scale for each one (traffic light system).

London Lishi Arts will manage and run this project to benefit over 50 weekly run Lishi classes taking place in 5 regions of England (London, East Midlands, Yorkshire, North West, North East). Workshops and other training will take place in London, Manchester and Leeds as appropriate.
Current participation in regular Lishi weekly run community classes involves some 500 people of which perhaps 30% pay an annual membership fee of £50. Classes are located in urban areas of deprivation where venue hire is low or often free of charge with people mainly from lower socio/economic groups attending. The Lishi Equal Opportunities Policy states that classes should be open to all and that they should be as accessible as possible.
London Lishi Arts has been a registered charity teaching Lishi since 2006. It has been successful in growing from 1 class to 7 in this time and been involved in projects including Big Dance London (Mayors Office), Awards for All and Big Give which have all helped it to grow. London Lishi Arts is a member of EMDP which is the Sport England NGB for the movement and dance sector and also has direct links to all the other Lishi groups running in England.
