Narrowgate Emergency Night Shelter
An emergiency accomodation (day and night) provision for up to 30 rough sleepers a day, 365 days a year
It is an ongoing project
Charity information: Manchester City Mission
Many rough sleepers do not cope well when taken into a hostel and sometimes lose their place because of behaviour problems
Narrowgate is a simple dormitory with 30 beds. The clients are watched over throughout the night allowing them to feel safe
To eventually help rough sleepers access the support they need to move onto a more secure lifestyle
Activities» Narrowgate provides supper, a clean bed in a warm environment and breakfast to those who would otherwise have spent the night on the street
» Manchester City Mission employs a resettlement worker to work with guests towards permanent accommodation
What success will look like
During the first 6 months of opening over 30 clients went on to secure housing. the figure grew to approachging 50 guests being successfully rehoused in 2017
Change of lifestyle for many people.
The resetlement worker works with guests befor and after being rehoused which has shown a possitive result on the number of bounce backs. Previously this was 10% whih has now reduced to 0%
This is a carefully monitored project. In depth risk assessments are made on all prospective clients prior to them being accepted

Rough sleepers, newly released offenders, drug and alcohol addicts
We are able to provide very basic help. Many of our clients struggle with the freedom given in private rooms in hostels and abuse the system thus losing their places. Our clients are watched overnight and are not allowed drugs or alcohol on the premises. Nearly 10 years of successful experience

4 Full Time Staff And An Army Of Volunteers
We have a project coordinator who works during the day dealing with administration. We have 4 full time night shift workers and an army of volunteer
It costs Manchester City Mission £150 a week for a guest to stay to be fed and fully supported.
When you see a guest move out into their own accommodation, it is wonderful to know that one more person has gone from being on the streets to having that basic human right met, a home of their own.
