Project information

Pink Champagne Dragon Boat Team

We support people who have had Breast Cancer to move forward after treatment by using the exercise and support of a dragon boat team. We have raised funds for our first boat and now need to develop a new site to paddle from so that we can grow and support family members too.

  • Need

    Need

We are a successful small charity who has gained lots of support and so we now need to move from the temporary base we run from to a more suitable site.At present we have a site with no toilet facilities and no room for another boat. This means we cannot invite more people to join us and we cannot support families of survivors as much as we would like.

    Solution

With another boat and better facilities we can increase awareness by promoting ourselves and inviting people to visit us to see what we do in line with our mission statement (see www.pinkchampagne.org.uk)

  • Aims

    Aim 1

Find a new site where we can keep 2 boats and hold meetings, workshops and invite guests.

    Activities

» Raise awareness of our need, attend local carnivals, speak to media and any groups who can help. Hold awareness raising evening in October 2010.
» Fund raise. All small and big activities with all members involved in increasing funds.

Success will be...having a site with a toilet, where we hold regular meetings and guests can be invited to paddle.

    Aim 2

Get a second boat with all equipment

Success will be...having a supporters' boat so that family and friends who can come and be part of what we do.

  • Impact

    Impact

We hope to be a long term, sustainable charity offering support to an increasingly wider group of cancer survivors. We are part of an international group of Breast Cancer Survivors, attended an international festival in Canada in June 2010, which we funded ourselves and hope to get to the 2014 festival with a larger group of people. To do this we need facilities and equipment that can be used and accessed by all.

    Risk

We are searching in a limited area and may need to spread our search area. We are operating already and need to make sure we keep everyone on board. The charity will continue to operate if we fail but will not grow as we would like to widen support.

    Reporting

We have a website where we will report all activities. We minute all our meetings and we will nominate a member of our committee to be the contact for any donors. It is important for us for donors to be in full support of what we are trying to achieve and so be in communication with us regularly.

  • Background

    Location

We currently operate out of Iford Scout Hut but would be happy to move in order to get a good site that meets our charities aims. We have people from East Dorset and West Hampshire so need a site that serves those areas.

    Beneficiaries

Our aim is to take anyone who can travel to our paddling site. Anyone who has been diagnosed with Breast Cancer, has finished their treatment and has had medical advice that they are fit to paddle come become active members but we also welcome those who want to join us to gain support and friendship as well as the families of those diagnosed.

  • Why Us?

    Why Us?

We have grown out of an International movement, with medical research that the exercise of dragon boat paddling is beneficial to people who have had breast cancer treatment. We are run by survivors and so know that issues faced by members. We have grown since our inception in 2007.
