Pure Life Revolution : Redeeming Love

Pure Life Revolution is a project that will address the issue of the sexualisation of young people in the UK. Our aim is to create a full-length theatre production that will tour across the country looking at how to handle relationships, pornography, cyber sex and grooming.

  • Need

    Need

Over 80% of young people use the internet daily or weekly and around a third of 8-11 year olds and 60% of 12-15 year olds say that they mostly use the internet on their own. A recent YouGov survey found that 27% of boys are accessing pornography every week and 5% viewing it every day.
We are aware that our young people have become increasingly vulnerable to being sexualised through the over use of such mediums as the internet. Young people need to be shown how to say no and retain purity.

    Solution

The theatre production will address such subjects as pornography, cyber sex and online grooming showing the negative effects that they have upon a young person who is subjected to them. The production will then aim to show that there is another way of being in relationship with someone, one that models how to honour each other.
After each production there will be workshops for the young people to attend, unpacking these issues further, giving practical ways that they can protect their purity.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

Addressing the issue of cyber sex, online relationships and pornography.

    Activities

» Use the story within the theatre production to open up the topic then follow this with workshops giving practical advice and guidelines.

Success will be having a production that is accessible and easy to understand, that both adults and young people can connect with and learn from.

    Aim 2

To enable young people to see that their sexuality can be restored.

    Activities

» Use the story within the theatre production to open up the topic then follow this with workshops giving practical advice and guidelines.

Success will be young people engaging in the workshops, discussion times and coming away with a greater understanding of restoration through the personal experiences of the team.

    Aim 3

To show young people how to honour and respect themselves and others within relationships.

    Activities

» Use the story within the theatre production to open up the topic then follow this with workshops giving practical advice and guidelines.

Success will be the young people getting involved in the whole experience, both the theatre and workshops and coming away feeling empowered by the Pure team.

  • Impact

    Impact

In the long term this project will see such current statistics as 'one in three teenage girls aged 13-17 have been subjected to unwanted sexual acts within a relationship' disappear. We believe that the long-term effects of addressing these issues will be monumental. The innocence of our young people got left behind a few decades ago and it should be our prerogative to bring it back and change the current UK statistics. Through this we'll see a change in how our young people value relationships.

    Risk

There will be risk assessments completed for all new venues that we take the production to and each performer will have an understudy in case there is a last-minute drop out for any reason. There is also a risk of young people disclosing traumatic personal experiences due to the topics being addressed. We have dealt with this risk by ensuring that there will always be a health care professional onsite at all times to give each young person the full follow-up care that they may need.

    Reporting

We will report to donors by releasing a monthly update on how the production is being received by schools and youth groups via an email newsletter. At the end of the production's first year we will also compile a report on the effects that the production has had.

  • Background

    Location

Pure Life Revolution will be based and will originate from Pure in Liverpool but will tour the UK. For each new city that we take the production, we will look to partner with local schools and youth groups to give the work a local connection.

    Beneficiaries

The primary beneficiaries from the project will be the young people that we perform the production for and work with afterwards. The young people will be challenged on the way they view relationships and shown how to develop healthy ones with those around them.
The teachers and youth leaders will also benefit from seeing the production and being a part of the follow up work as they gain further insight into some of the obstacles facing this generation and how to tackle them in a healthy way.

  • Why Us?

    Why Us?

Pure Creative Arts has seven years of experience of working with young people across the UK on issues such as sex and relationships. Throughout this time the team has learnt the most effective ways of communicating to young people in a way that they can engage with and also learn from. Pure's team is also very passionate about the work that they do and the people that they work with which far outweighs a person says the same thing but doesn't care for the person they are talking to.
