Goldsmiths Annual Fund
The Annual Fund exists to assist students in financial hardship, the library and also projects from around the College.
Funds are raised and used within the same year so ensuring your gift helps with an immediate concern.
March 2011 - February 2012
Goldsmiths, University of London, Annual Fund
Universities are under increasing pressure as they try to meet the costs of high-quality learning and teaching and all the student support that goes with that.
Government funding and fees barely cover the essential costs of learning and teaching, leaving universities to meet other costs themselves. Little is left to fund student support, extra copies of books for the library, or additional extra-curricular activities.
Each gift to the Annual Fund will be used to enhance the College experience for our students.
We want to ensure that for those who are talented, bright, and creative there is no barrier for them accepting a place at Goldsmiths and that our facilities reflect our academic excellence and providing an extra-curricular environment where individuals flourish.
Improve the student experience through extra-curricular activities.
Activities» Allow as many students as possible to partake in a range of projects and activities that would not received support from elsewhere.
» Buy or replace much needed equipment for students' societies and teaching activities.
Success will be ensuring that we can assist more projects than the 23 (out of 97applications) projects helped this year.
Improve our facilities and resources.
Activities» Refurbish study and research areas, and purchase equipment.
Success will be providing even more equipment and resources.
Offer more scholarships.
Activities» Support students who are suffering from finanical hardship.
» Provide bursaries for postgraduate students.
This year we hope to be able to support more students.
The Annual Fund aims to help with immediate needs as generated by staff and students of Goldsmiths. By improving our facilities, offering more activities and resources, and assisting students, the Annual Fund will help our students and staff make the positive contribution to society in so many diverse areas.
Now in our second year (2010/11) there is a risk that we could receive less support for our donors.
By illustrating the difference gifts make and showing that there is a real need for support.
Each donor receives a letter thanking them for their support;
A copy of our alumni magazine lists the projects and acknowledges their support;
Invitation to attend a reception where they can meet those they have helped.

Goldsmiths, University of London is located in New Cross, South East London. We are both a Higher and Further Education institution. Our research and reputation is internationally renowned and we are also firmly routed within our area, one of the most deprived in London, if not the UK.
Our current students will feel the most immediately impact from the Annual Fund, but many of the projects helped have also help our local community including:
- helping support a series of drama workshops for homeless people and another for refugees,
- helping local school children gain confidence in research,
One recipient said: “The opportunity that this will give our students will be immense. It could not have been achieved without support from the Annual Fund. It really means a lot."
Goldsmiths, University of London is a charity (exempt, so we have no Charity number) and our Annual Fund is based at Goldsmith.

I raise funds, promote the Fund around the College, reporting back to donors and ensuring that projects keep within their remit.

I would say to someone considering supporting the Annual Fund, please do it! Students like me, who aspire to do things really need this.
