Daisy Garland Ketogenic Dietitian
To place our 9th Daisy Garland Ketogenic Dietitian at The Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Glasgow.
The Daisy Garland
There are 18,000 children in the UK with drug-resistant epilepsy. Our funding will allow Scottish based children the opportunity to try a drug-free treatment, which can lead to a reduction in the frequency and severity of seizures, and in some cases complete seizure freedom.
The Daisy Garland will fund a specially trained full-time ketogenic dietitian at The Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Glasgow for 3 years giving children access to the ketogenic diet. We are optimistic that the hospital trust will take over this funding when our funding ceases. Since 2006 we have successfully funded for 8 Daisy Garland Ketogenic Dietitians to work within hospitals in the UK (Plymouth, Bristol, London x 3, Nottingham, Derby and Manchester).

Activities» To raise funds for the salary for the dietitian for a 3 year period.
» Work with the NHS to find a suitable candidate.
Success will be the dietitian running a full caseload of patients on the ketogenic diet.
There is a limited ketogenic service already available in Glasgow with a long waiting list of patients waiting to start the diet. The expansion of the service with a full-time dietitian will reduce waiting times. Success will be demonstrated through feedback from parents.
It is important to find the right candidate for the position.
Funders of this project will receive regular updates of how the service is running and individual stories about children who have had success with the diet and how their lives and those of their families have been transformed.
