To provide volunteering and informal learning opportunities for rurally isolated and disadvantaged young people 11-25 offering Nationally recognised accreditation and achievement recognition routes, therefore up-skilling them and improving their employability and long term life prospects

  • Need


    Lack of opportunities and learning routes available to disadvantaged and rurally isolated young people. Typically young people from low income families growing up in rural areas miss out on valuable opportunities for education and development, this in turn limits their longer term life chances of escaping the poverty trap and reaching their full potential as individuals.


    By identifying the gaps in provision and the needs of our young people locally. We will then address the situation by offering relevant volunteer and training opportunities and bridging the gap on to higher education and employment by forging links with local and national employers and centres of education.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

    To upskill at least 15 young people annually.


    » Provide a broad and varied programme of volunteering opportunities within the youth and community setting.
    » Provide training and accreditation up to nationally recognised standards.
    » Create apprenticeship and training opportunities with local and national employers and centres of education.

    What success will look like

    Success will be identified by having reached our target of 15 young people annually gaining accreditation or moving on to an apprenticeship, work placement or higher education.

    Aim 2

    To help young people overcome barriers to employment, development and training.


    » Provide individual counselling, support and training to help overcome obstacles that hinder and limit their long term life chances.

    What success will look like

    Success will be demonstated through clients having identified these barriers and having accessed the support necessary to overcome them.

  • Impact


    The long term changes we will acheive will be a considerable decrease in the number of young people who are not in educaction, employment or training locally or who are not accessing the opportunities they are entitled to. This will be demonstrated through the monitoring and evaluation of clients individual progress whilst attending the project and also after progressing onto the various routes available to them.


    A sudden decrease or loss of funding to the project. We have addressed this by ensuring that we recieve support from many different sources including statutory and independent funding and also by budgeting for at least 2 years in advance. Other risks are loss ofclient group though this risk is minimal as the subscription rate has increased twofold over the last year since the projects inception and we do not anticipate this figure decreasing in the near future.


    through Annual and interim reports specific to our funders as well as regular updates on specific goals and particular highlights, press releases etc. Reports will contain details of beneficiary figures, outcomes and case studies as well as general overview and target outcomes.

  • Background


    Llandysul is a particularly deprived and rurally isolated area of Wales, being the seventh most deprived ward in Ceredigion and having the second lowest population density in Wales. It is the second most deprived ward in terms of unemployment levels and the third most deprived ward in terms of child poverty. These issues contribute towards a lack of social and recreational opportunities for young people and public transport is poor. Outside of secondary school education, there are


    Average 85 young people attend the Project weekly, particularly high percentages of female members with new members joining on a regular basis. Also increasing numbers of young people with special needs or disabilities, or who are fostered and would not normally have the opportunity to engage with their peers in a safe and positive environment. Over 25 young people benefit directly from the specific activities sessions on a Tuesday night and a further 45 from the sexual health programme.

We have a proven track record in project delivery and reaching target outcomes and remain the most highly subsribed youth provision in the county. Our dedicated management committee ensure the maintenance of these high standards.

    Project Manager- responsible for all aspects of project and staff management including Fundraising, project development, supervision, recruitment.

    Jane Turnbull

    Youth worker- specialising in work with vulnerable and hard to reach young people, sexual and mental well being and counselling.

    Management Committee

    Consisting of 7 local recognised members of the community with expertise in Social Welfare, teaching etc all of whom dedicate their time voluntarily.
