Save our Pre-school

Streatley Hill Pre-school needs to replace its existing building with a new building to ensure its long term survival, otherwise it will be forced to close. A bigger, better facility will also increase our capacity to deliver high quality pre-school education to all children aged 2-4 in the village.

  • Need

The current building is rapidly deteriorating. A Full Structural Survey in 2003 stated that its estimated lifespan was 5 years. Its maintenance cost are high & it is difficult to heat. There is no separate rest, & nappy changing area. It is no longer fit to deliver the education our children deserve. If something irreparable happened to it tomorrow, we would be forced to close, with the loss of 6 jobs, & unable to offer affordable, local pre-school education. Despite this, it is oversubscribed.

The new building will have a long lifespan (in excess of 40 years) so that all future Streatley children can benefit from local, high quality pre-school education. Its increase in size will accommodate a separate rest, & nappy changing area. It will have natural light and ventilation, and improved energy efficiency. We will be able to increase our capacity from 14 to 20 children per pre-school session, meeting the demand from local parents to access affordable childcare, & keep 6 staff employed.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

Aim: to replace the current portacabins with a new modular building.

» Raise £170,000 via trusts, foundations, local government and a series of local fundraising initiatives.

    What success will look like

The success will be demonstrated in the completion of a new , slightly larger building with an estimated lifespan of over 40 years.

  • Impact

    a) The future of the Pre-school will be secured
    b) Affordable childcare provision in Streatley will increase from 14 children per session to 20.
    c) Six people will keep their jobs
    d) A substantial decrease in maintenance costs will significantly reduce the need to constantly fundraise to cover costs

    1. The Pre-school could be forced to close before the build begins, diverting the build team from the project to finding a temporary home OR the build is delayed/takes longer than projected.
We have dealt with both these risks by already identifying an alternative temporary home.
    2. Insufficient funds are raised.
The size of the new building is non-negotiable as a smaller building would not meet our aims.
The fundraising team would continue to fundraise until the target is met.

We will give a bi-monthly report to donors, invite them to see work in progress on site during the build, acknowledge their support in agreed literature, and invite them to attend the opening of the new building,
