Taking the Fear out of NGO Finance:self-study pack
There is very little local affordable, good quality, tailored NGO financial management training available in developing countries. Access to Mango training is often limited by cost and geography. Mango's Big Idea is to develop free self-study packs to assist those unable to attend our courses.
Charity information: Mango (Management Accounting for Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs))
Small NGOs often lack the financial skills to work in an efficient, effective, sustainable and accountable way. There is very little affordable, good quality, tailored NGO financial management training available in developing countries and access to Mango training is often limited by cost and geography. Mango's free plain language self-study packs will assist staff in small NGOs to develop key financial management skills at their own pace that they can apply confidently in their organisations.
By making Mango's financial management resources more easily accessible to many more thousands of NGO staff, we will achieve real results in building their skills and confidence. This has a direct impact in improving efficiency, effectiveness and accountability and ultimately enables NGOs to do more with every pound they are given. They can support more communities, dig more wells and – in the extreme case – save more lives.
To develop a self-study pack comprising two modules as a pilot.
Activities» Develop a downloadable and printable self-study pack in plain language comprising two modules: budgeting and reporting.
» Free dissemination the self-study packs through Mango's existing global network.
» Provide e-mail based support for users.
» Elicit feedback and evaluate pilot.
What success will look like
Success will be developing and disseminating a self-study pack through Mango's existing global network fo over 20,000 NGO staff and eliciting feedback on users' new skills.
1,700 NGO staff attended Mango training courses in over 30 countries in 2009. Over 15,000 people pa currently download over 110,000 free resources from Mango's website. The self-study packs will assist staff, particularly in small NGOs, that are unable to attend our courses, to develop key financial management skills and the confidence to apply the skills in their organisations. We will survey users to elicit feedback and ascertain success.
Activities might not delivered as proposed due to capacity issues. (Mango services are in high demand). Slippage in the work plan may impact upon ability to deliver study packs within the planned timescale. We are experienced at providing the support outlined. We have a number of UK based staff able to design and deliver the study packs. We also have a team of associates trainers to call upon.
Donors will receive quarterly reports by email detailing progress made in the development of the self-study packs, dissemination and a summary of the user survey results and feedback.
