  • Need

    Need

Disabled children face many barriers when it comes to accessing leisure and social opportunities. There are very few programs for children with disabilities. In addition most of our users are also financially deprived making it virtually impossible for their children to attend any summer programs due to the high cost involved in any program for children with additional needs. Lastly children with special needs require structure which is highly unlikely for them to get during the summer holidays

    Solution

Camp Horizons effectively solves the problem by virtue of it's existence. A residential summer camp created for children with a wide range of Special Needs, Camp Horizons 2019 will provides over 75 special campers with a fantastic summer experience. a 1:1 or 2:1 counselor to camper ratio, dedicated medical support staff, a fully inclusive program and tailored activities will all contribute to the success of Camp Horizons 2019. We do not turn away any child due to lack of funds.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

To provide a unique Summer camp experience for 75 children & young people with Disabilities.

    What success will look like

Success will be hosting camp Horizons in 2019 and providing 75 unique campers with an amazing Summer experience.

  • Impact

    Impact

The long term effects of Camp Horizons are immense. First and foremost are the benefit to the campers themselves. 2 weeks of structured fun does oodles of good, to their self-confidence, provides them with countless opportunities for teamwork and allows them a healthy release of pent up energy. Camp Horizons also provides the (full time) parents and carers of the campers with a bit of time to relax and rejuvenate.....

    Risk

Injuries and Children's safety: This is dealt with by having rigorous child protection & accident management policies and is backed up by a comprehensive public indemnification insurance policy.

Inclement weather: Have a range of indoor based activities in case of that (rare??) eventuality.

    Reporting

At the conclusion of Camp, Donors will receive a 'Thank You' album containing photos and write ups of camp highlights.
