Free counselling for those affected by Cancer
Chai offers counselling to cancer patients and their families; individuals, couples, groups and children. Our counsellors are highly qualified to deal with cancer related issues. They help clients to live and cope with the complex and varied impacts of cancer, in a confidential and neutral setting.

With a combination of earlier diagnoses and better treatment, people are living longer and surviving cancer.
However, a cancer diagnosis can be the most traumatic time in a person's life.
Both the patient and family can be overwhelmed by anxieties about the illness, the future and their loved ones.
Often those affected by cancer are uncomfortable expressing these feelings to their loved ones, but need an outlet where they can discuss their feelings in a safe and confidential environment.
Chai Cancer Care provides free counselling for individuals, couples, groups and children at 8 centres accross the UK or at the clients' own home.
All counselling sessions are confidential. They deal with a wide range of issues, from psychosexual to concerns about the future.
Children are helped to cope with their own or a family member's illness
Chai counsellors are all expertly trained in dealing with issues caused by cancer; enabling clients to talk freely about their thoughts and concer
To provide a safe and confidential service where clients affected by cancer can discuss any concerns

What success will look like
Ongoing provision; clients stay with the counselling service with managed severance at appropriate times. Chai monitors the number of new clients recommended by family / friends
To provide free counselling sessions for all clients, for as long as they need the help and support.
Activities» Ongoing assessment and evaluation of the success of the counselling sessions, to ensure they are helping the client and meeting the changing needs.
» Ensuring continuity of care; the same counsellor works with the same client at the Chai Centre or in their own home, hospital or hospice.

Success will be measured by client satisfaction - Chai uses the accredited tool MYCAW (measure your concerns and welfare) to ensure quality of service
As cancer is increasingly seen as a chronic disease. Counselling helps those affected by cancer to learn to live with the illness and its potentially long term impacts
As cancer can reoccur, patients who have benefited from counselling can revisit their counsellors at a later stage of their cancer journey. Clients may also return when annual medical check ups are approaching
Family members find counselling helpful to cope with issues that they feel they cannot discuss with their loved ones
Lack of confidentiality which would undermine trust is the greatest risk.
Minimal client details are held on a secure database with limited access.
All counsellors are accredited with the British Association of Psychotherapy and Counselling and adhere to their strict code of practice regarding confidentiality and patient notes.
All notes are held in a secure store with access restricted to the counsellor.
All Chai Staff abide by the confidentiality agreements and code of conduct
Chai is able to report to donors on the level of service usage in great detail but maintains the anonymity of the donor at all times
Chai uses an accredited evaluation tool MYCAW that monitors client satisfaction of services used. We are also able to provide donors photos and anonymous case studies

Chai Cancer Care's flagship centre is North West London with 7 satellite centres in Redbridge, Westcliff, South London, Hackney, South Manchester and Glasgow. All counselling services are available in clients' own home, should they be unable or unwilling to attend a centre. We offer telephone counselling, 6 days / week to distressed clients or those who do not live in the geographical proximity of a Chai Centre
Chai services are for the UK Jewish community. Each year over 1700 Jews are diagnosed with cancer. We do not charge clients for any of our services, which also includes a wide range of rehabilitative and therapeutic therapies, advice and social advocacy. Chai's service is nationwide and includes a wide spectrum of economic groups. Some who are able choose to make a donation for services received. Chai is in its 20th year but has expanded exponentially in the past 3 years
Chai is the only UK organisation to offer cancer support services to cancer patients and their families within the Jewish community. Our counsellors are Jewish and are able to empathise and understand the cultural implications of the impacts of cancer on patients and families. Our counsellors are highly trained in cancer issues and BACP accredited. Chai is advised by cancer specialists. Chai's Level 3 psychological services were in the top 2 of N London Cancer Network commissioners report
