Dreams to memories
Giving adults with autism the chance to turn their dreams to memories by helping them plan therapeutic breaks.
This will enable them to experience the holiday memories that many people take for granted.
Our Residential Services care for 48 adults with autism. These individuals need a high level of care and, in the majority of cases, their condition precludes them from employment. The personal allowance that they receive from the benefits agencies is only £22.30. This income needs to cover the costs of clothing, toiletries and items of interest that most of us take for granted (such as CDs, DVDs, magazines and books). They are therefore unable to afford to pay for a break for themselves.
We will use funding to hekp cover the costs of therapeutic breaks that the individuals have planned for themselves.
Establish Dreams to Memories to enable adults with autism to benefit from therapeutic breaks.
Activities» Establish a panel that adults with autism can request funding from.
» The panel will received requests for funding from individuals and distribute the money raised.
Success will be measured by the number of adults planning and experiencing therapeutic breaks for themselevs.
The experience of new environments, new activities and the chance to meet new people. A holiday also provides people with memories that will last a lifetime and can be shared with family and friends.
Individuals have become more communicative followinig trips in the past.
The change in environment could cause anxiety for the individual. All trips are planned with members of staff to minimise anxiety and staff members will accompany the individuals with autism.
After every therapeutic break a report will be completed and this will be used to report back to funders.
