Project information

Singing For the Future

We run singing projects for the very young (4yr olds) to the very old (over 80s), all based on the techniques of the Hungarian composer Zoltan Kodaly, who believed that musicality should be taught as a foundation to singing, which should at all times be fun and improve the health of the singer.

  • Need

To instill healthy living, social cohesion and cultural understanding amongst a diverse and very mixed community, in a geographical area which has pockets of intense urbanity and isolated rural communities. Singing brings people together, brings a healthy lifestyle to singers through development of breathing techniques and better posture, and enables people - both young and old - to mix with their communities whilst combating isolation. Singing is especially good for those who are vulnerable.

By bringing people together - both young and old - over a sustained length of time on a regular basis.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

To bring the vulnerable and isolated together to give them a sense of self worth through singing.

» Singing on a weekly basis using the techniques of Zoltan Kodaly - a range of techniques which we have used to great effect.

    What success will look like

Success will be...ensuring that all participants come togehter every week to enjoy singing together.

    Aim 2

To give young and old the opportunity to share singing through a joint concert at the end of 2011.

» Run weekly one hour workshops using the techniques of Kodaly.

    What success will look like

Success will be...achieving this aim and for the concert to be a showcase for the work of particiapnts, giving them a sense of self worth.

  • Impact

    Through continuation in 2011 - 2012.

    Transport/venue/volunteer time
