The Walled City Music Festival takes place in the ancient, historic and unique city of Derry-Londonderry, Northern Ireland. Derry-Londonderry is the winner of UK City of Culture 2013, but currently does not have a major representation of Classical Music. The entire Festival will take place thoughout the Magee campus of the University of Ulster, between the main building and the School of Music.
Both international and local communities greatly benefit from the Festival. We have world renowned Artists coming to Derry, representing many different countries, who will be working with some of the locally-based students. Derry is beginning to grow economically, but it has been restricted due to the recent Troubles in Northern Ireland
All educational activities and events are free admission to the public and students participating--our aim to stimulate interest in classical music.
Northern Ireland does not currently have an international classical music festival of this calibre. The Festival is able to bring Grammy-award winning musicians due to its Artistic Directors, pianist Cathal Breslin and American Sabrina Hu, who have selected colleagues interested in the long-term development of classical music in Northern Ireland. Dr. Breslin wanted to create a way of creating exceptional opportunities in his home city that he did not have growing up during the Troubles.
