Creative Entrepreneurs

Creative Entrepreneurs is a pilot programme designed to unlock the creative and entrepreneurial talents of young people in England and overseas by working together to develop creative and entrepreneurial solutions for problems that exist in their respective communities.

  • Need


    The project is trying to solve the problem of young people not engaging in problems that affect their community. It also aims to solve the problem of young people not feeling sufficiently empowered to deal with local issues or having a voice within their community.


    The project seeks to engage young people in developing entrepreneurial solutions to local issues using a creative approach. This will be facilitated by creative professionals who will support young people in a school setting to look outward and explore how they can take ownership of an issue and develop a solution using a variety of resources. Through facilitated inter-cultural dialogue, young people will also benefit from the perspective of their peers in another country.

    Aim 1

    Encourage young people to use their creative abilities to find innovate solutions to local issues.


    » Young people will work collaboratively with creative professionals in a school setting to identify issues affecting their community

    What success will look like

    Success will be young people identifying and developing specific solutions to local issues and taking them forward as part of a project which they have ownership of.

    Aim 2

    Increase motivation and confidence in young people through creativity


    » Young people, with help from creative professionals and teachers, will evaluate how they feel project has helped them in this respect.

    What success will look like

    Success will be young people taking ownership of an issue, working together and communicating in a positive way. Success will also involve the development of peer networks

    Aim 3

    Promote the positive contribution that young people can make to their local community


    » Promote the project to local stakeholders such as the local authority and local media and other schools in the area.

    What success will look like

    Success will be achieved through recognition by local stakeholders such as the media, peers, local authority and other schools.

    Aim 4

    Help young people reflect on their learning and the role that creativity has played


    » Young people, creative professionals and teachers will evaluate the learning that has taken place at the end of the project

    What success will look like

    Success will be achieved through young people, teachers and creative professionals evaluating the project together and identifying how and they achieved the various outcomes.

    Aim 5

    Encourage young people to explore progression opportunities they might not otherwise


    » Work with local partners to ensure that young people are aware of the opportunities that are available to them

    What success will look like

    Success will be young people enagaging proactively with local partner organisations to explore opportunities that they might not otherwise have believed to be attainable.

  • Impact


    The project aims to develop a long term change in young so that they feel willing and able to make a positive contribution to their community and know that this will be recognised. The project also aims to stimulate young people to think in an entrepreneurial way and use creative approaches to bring about change. The project has key aims which will be independently evaluated at the end of the project and the learning from this will be used to influence future project development.


    Limited enagagement by young people; CCE has strong links with the schools involved in the pilot project and they have run succesful projects in the past. Local delivery partners also have strong buy-in from the schools in question who are able to encourage young people to participate in a project that would be of direct benefit to them.


    All CCE school projects are subject to regular monitoring and evaluation so the findings from this project would be communicated to potential donors using an established framework

  • Background


    The project will be located within two schools in Birmingham as the city is the youngest in Europe with 45.8% of the population under the age of 30.


    The direct beneficiaries of the project will be young people and their community. More specifically, the indirect beneficiaries of the project will be the schools who host the projects, teachers, creative practitioners, parents and the local authority.

    Why Us?

    Creativity, Culture and Education has extensive experience of delivering creative learning programmes in and out of school. CCE manages the Government's Creative Partnerships programme in schools and this has been running since 2002. Creative Partnerships is recognised by OFSTED for its contribution to enriching the curriculum and improving standards.

    Head Teachers

    Head teachers will provide the leadership within schools that participate in the project.

    Area Delivery Organisation

    The ADO is CCE's local partner who will manage the implementation,delivery and evaluation of the project.

    Creative Agent

    The Creative Agent fulfils a vital brokerage role bewteen the ADO and the school. They also engage creative professionals in the project.

    Creative Professionals

    Creative professionals are the artists who will work directly with young people participating in the project.
