  • Need

Children and young people with physical and learning disabilities find it difficult to access a whole range of opportunites, for a variety of reasons. Finding employment and training is tough, and getting the funds for the correct equipment is a challenge.

Action For Kids provides a range of services to address this problem:
    1. Mobility equipment provision service, funding items such as powered wheelchairs and trikes, not usually available on the NHS, up to the age of 26 all around the UK.
    2. Family support helpline, providing advice and a listening ear
    3. Work Related Learning Service, offering high quality, relevant placements for disabled young people
    4. Life Skills Training Programme, offering accredited courses in a range of new skills

Success will be evident by monitoring the skills, qualifications and increase in self-esteem of the young people we work with

  • Impact

Disabled children and young people will have improved access to a range of opportunities. They will gain in confidence and have a real say in the way they live their lives.

Success will be demonstrated by their progress to new accredited training programmes and by a range of personalised monitoring systems.

More profound disabilities and communication difficulties means that some of the children and young people we work with have a lack of choice and control. We have addressed this by providing a range of new assistive technology solutions to allow this group to participate more fully in decision-making.

Action For Kids carries out short and long-term evaluation of our programmes using a range of qualitative and quantitative processes. We will feedback this information to donors regularly, along with newsletters, case studies and direct contact from our beneficiaries.
