Scotland's First Dance & Disability Festival
Indepen-dance would like to host a dance and disability festival in collaboration with Culture and Sport Glasgow and Dance House. The festival will involve integrated dance companies from the UK, Europe and Canada. To be hosted in the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and Tramway.
April 2011 - July 2012
Charity information: Indepen-dance
The problem is that people with disabilities are often excluded from regular dance activities within their community because of their disability. Indepen-dance is the ONLY organisation in Glasgow that provides a wide range of classes, training courses and performance opportunities for people with diverse abilities offering individuals the opportunity to learn from each other and share a creative experience. We want to celebrate our achievements with others through the dance festival.
To highlight integrated dance Indepen-dance would host a dance and disability festival which will create opportunities for people with disabilities, and their carers,to enjoy, and fulfil their potential through dance, enable individuals with learning disabilities to participate in and benefit fully from a high quality dance festival. Share performances and working methods with other integrated companies from across the UK, Europe and Canada.
To host Scotland's first International Dance and Disability Festival
Activities» The festival will include; Integrated dance performancescompanies,Seminars on Dance and Disability, A selection of Dance workshops
What success will look like
Success will be...having excellent attendance at the festival from a good cross section of the integrated dance sector.
The project develop a wider audience for dance and disability and build continuing awareness of the possibilities for disabled people to become involved in and have access to the arts through performance and workshops. Success will be measured in the attendance at the festival and there after the increase in people with disabilities accessing a dance activity.
The risks are mainly due to funding - in the current financial climate when charitable organisations and foundations are closing some of the invited guests or those wishing to part may struggle to fund their travel and accommodation costs to attend the festival - we would hope to support organisations wishing to attend as much as possible by making links with organisations to offer discounted accommodation for festival attendees.
Funders will be provided with regular updates via our funders notice board on our website, this would include written updates and visual updates with photos and video downloads.
All funders would be invited to attend the official dance festival opening and performance events.

Adults and young people with disabilities and the festival participants, audience members and the wider community of dance and disability as in the carers, support staff and family members.
Indepen-dance hosted a conference on dance and disability in Mar 09 called "Moving On" in collaboration with Dance House and C&S Glasgow.
This enabled us to measure the demand and need for the development of the festival, we will continue to have the support of both organisations to realise the dance and disability festival as well as the continued support from the wider dance and disability community.
