The Comedy Trust
Young People interested in careers within the creative industries feel that there are no opportunities to gain the sought after experience needed to get a 'foot in the door'. Over 6.7% of the regions workforce is currently engaged in the tourism and creative industies and the Stand Out Creative Agency will make a positive contribution to the area by helping young people gain the skills necessary to help them into employment.
The Stand Out Creative Agency will work with local education establishments, arts organisations, creative operators and artists to engage young people in a series of workshops, mentor sessions and work experience opportunities. This will help them to gain the confidence and experience needed for employment. The project will encourage more young people to get involved in arts provision and give them the confidence to follow their ambition to gain a career the creative industries.
To provide training, education and skills development for young people outside of formal education
Activities» To collaborate with local education establishments, arts organisations and creative operators to provide the best possible service to young people
» To engage 100 young people in workshops, industry masterclasses, work experience, performance opportunities and events that will improve confidence
» To set up a website and networking forum that will allow young people to access training and skills development opportunities and share experiences
» To offer accreditation such as Arts Award that will give young people the opportunity to create a portfolio of their work and contribute to their CV.
Success will be... improving the confidence and self-esteem in at least 70 young people and partnering with at least 5 creative organisations and 5 schools during the project.
The project will enable young people to gain the skills and work experience necessary to gain full-time employment in the arts and creative industries.
We will demonstrate the success of the Stand Out Creative Agency by monitoring the number of young people engaged in the project at all times. We will also continue to work with young people and education establishments to track their progress whether that be their gaining full-time employment or moving into Further or Higher Education.
There is a risk that partners may not have the resources to carry out the proposed workshops & that schools are not able to advertise the Creative Agency successfully due to lack of resources.
We will deal with this by ensuring that partners are fully aware of their obligations before they sign up to the project.
We will work with each school on an individual basis to look at the best ways of advertsing and marketing the Creative Agency & encourage young people to get involved in this process
Funders and donors will:
- be sent a monthly report via email detailing the progress of the project including details of current, ongoing and upcoming activities.
- be informed of any necessary and/or major changes to the project.
- be updated on the progress of young people who have taken part

The Project will be based at The Royal Court Theatre. However, workshops, masterclasses and other opportunities will take place in other venues across Merseyside as well as the Theatre, such as in BBC Radio Merseyside, schools and youth centres.
The Theatre provides a vibrant atmosphere as the only continuously producing, non-funded theatre in the Country and the Agency will benefit from existing within this fast growing and creative environment.
There are currently no known organisations on Merseyside who are offering such a wide skills base to young people from deprived communities. The North West and specifically Merseyside has such a strong heritage within of arts and creative industries that such an Agency will have a positive impact.
It will benefit young people, creative/arts organisations, schools & communities throughout the North West and strengthen the creative industries further.
The Comedy Trust has been in existence since 2002 and has a wealth of experience in developing projects of this nature. The Trust has developed a groundbreaking, confidence building course 'Stand Out' which has involved over 5000 young people to date.
The Creative Agency is a new development building on the success of this course, which is delivered in schools to 14-18 year olds. Stand Out is delivered mainly in the North West & is currently being piloted in Scotland and other areas of the UK.
