  • Need

There is a lack of high quality performing arts spaces for community arts groups in St Albans.

We will convert a former department store into a performing arts space for community use.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

Convert the building to a theatre space and equip to professional standards

» Complete a full fit out of the performance space with theatre equipment

The theatre space is completed and positive feedback received from artists and audiences

    Aim 2

Secure a permanent public performance license so that we don't need to rely on temporary licenses

» Prepare a planning application to the local council

The public performance license is secured

    Aim 3

Attract other local performance companies to present their work at the new venue

» Implement a programme of engagement and promotion with local companies

At least two visiting companies in each season

    Aim 4

Present our own programme of high quality work

» Expand our current capacity through recruiting new directors, actors and creatives

Expanding our programme to six productions per year whilst maintaining our current quality standards

  • Impact

We will create a new culture of innovative and offbeat performance arts in St Albans. Success will be demonstrated through more companies producing innovative artistic work and more people coming to see them.

    1. Lack of funding - Addressed through realistic budgeting based on a pessimistic projection of past funding and attendance at our productions.

    2. Lack of capacity - Addressed through recruiting new directors, actors and creatives.

    3. Public performance license not secured - Addressed if needed through temporary licensing.

Half yearly written reports on each 'mini season'. Annual report. Opportunities for donors to visit the venue, see our work, and meet key personnel.

  • Why Us?

    Why Us?

Founded in 2002, OVO has an outstanding reputation for innovative, imaginative and inspiring theatre. We have already tried out running our own venue for a nine month trial period and this was a huge success with sellout audiences and critical acclaim. We have good links with other local arts groups and are confident we can secure their support.
