  • Need

    Need

Isolation within rural communities due to poverty, lack of public parks and spaces and inadequate public transport.

    Solution

The Playbus is a mobile play space which can come to the children and families who cannot travel to play facilities. It is a free, safe, friendly and nurturing environment where they can overcome some of the difficulties limiting their lives. Sessions are run by dedicated, professional fully-qualified people and the bus provides toys, books advice and regular contact for families with little or no long-term support.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

To develop existing projects bringing Play and support to families in rural communities

    Activities

» Double Decker Playbus adapted for use as a children's centre, toddler group station, after-school setting or meeting place.
» Mobile Toy Library visiting rural areas on a regular basis.
» A soft play/sensory vehicle visiting disabled children.

Success will be indicated by the numbers of children/families who choose to visit the bus frequently.
We also have evaluation forms for parents/carers to complete.

  • Impact

    Impact

With a safe and friendly place to play and congregate, there will be less incentive in the community for vandalism and unacceptable behaviour, and this will benefit community relations.
We will maintain close contact with local community leaders and the Police, with regular meetings to assess changes within the community over time.

    Risk

There is the risk that our presence might not be welcomed initially by the local community. We will ensure that all local organisations and leaders are informed of our presence and our purposes, and parking arrangements will be made before we hold any sessions inthat area.
There is also the risk of the project running short of money. To avoid this we have contacted many other fundraisers in an attempt to develop a regular working relationship.

    Reporting

Donors will be contacted individually and regularly with our Newsletter. This will also appear on our website, where there is a Blog which welcomes feedback.
