Organic Pasture improvement
To improve the quality of grazing without the use of harmful chemicals. The fields need lime and natural fertiliser to reduce buttercups and daisies and strengthen the grasses and herbs in the permanent pasture.
about fourteen days, but at intervals over the year.
Charity information: Blaikiewell Animal sanctuary
The quality of the pasture has declined with constant grasing.
The pH in the soil needs to be corrected with lime application to reduce the buttercups and daisies, and the grass needs fertilised to encourage more growth.
Lime and organic fertiliser will return the fields to good quality pasture without the use of harmful herbicides and chemical fertilisers.
To give the horses better quality grazing thus reducing the need for supplements and hay.
Activities» Apply organic fertiliser and lime at appropriate intervals in the coming year.
Success will be...The buttercups and daisies will give way to greener fields.
More grass will make it possible for us to accept more homeless animals and so enable us to help more people who are no longer able to keep their horses or ponies.
We do not foresee any risks. We will buy the fertiliser from our existing feed merchant and engage the agricultural contractor we have used for many years.
Funders of this project will receive an email report on the project detailing the progress, and photographs of the fields before and after completion.
