ARTHOUSE Meath is one of the Meath Epilepsy Charity's social enterprises, promoting the artistic skills and talents of people challenged by complex epilepsy and disabilities. They sell a wide range of high quality artworks and also homeware and clothing produced from their highly original designs.
The project requires ongoing funding to purchase materials and upgrade equipment.
Charity information: The Meath Epilepsy Charity
ARTHOUSE Meath aims to create a platform of positive change in attitude towards people who are often marginalised. Often, as a painting or product is sold, it is the first time that anyone has been recognised for what they can do, as opposed to what they can't. It makes a tremendous difference to someone's life to have their talents appreciated and confirmed. The subsequent self confidence feeds back into everyday life situations, and the happiness gained helps holistic health, reducing seizures
ARTHOUSE Meath offers opportunities to people with epilepsy and disabilities to develop their artistic skills alongside professional artists in order to produce designs and artworks that are then sold in a variety of guises to help sustain and develop the business. The team's art is highly original, very thought provoking and of an extremely high quality. They compete on a level playing field for their business and are gaining a great deal of praise for their ingenuity.
To extend the range of products with the ultimate aim to make ARTHOUSE Meath financially independent
Activities» To design and produce new packaging for a new product range
» To purchase a larger silk screen printing machine
» To purchase new IT software to help with merchandising
Success will be a higher sales turnover, with the aim of producing a profit at year end.
Turning the ARTHOUSE into a financially viable and independent social enterprise, ultimately being able to provide opportunities to a larger number of clients. With steady income coming in from product sales it would enable ARTHOUSE to be self funding, purchasing new material and growing the business as and when necessary.
The main risks would be not gaining sufficient funding to be able to push forwards with the growth of the business. Currently, we are at a level where the shortfall is met by input from the main Charity, since these are vital services that support people's health and welfare. But it is our aim for the enterprise to be self funding for a sustainable future.

ARTHOUSE Meath is based in High Street, Godalming and takes the form of an art-studio and front of house shop. The team also show their wares at several national shows each year and sell into over 300 outlets, both nationally and internationally.
The ARTHOUSE is open to Meath residents and other people with disabilities. It is beneficial to all participants as it helps develop skills and confidence, plus assists with maintaining good mental health. The project also provide a number of volunteer placements, while it benefits the wider community as a whole by providing an insight into and appreciation of the lives and capabilities of people with epilepsy and disabilities, helping reduce the stigma still sadly associated with both.
Our Charity has been at the forefront of our field for the past century. ARTHOUSE opened in 2005, and has since become a vibrant and important social enterprise within the Charity. It provides a unique opportunity for people with epilepsy and disabilities to develop new skills, confidence and self expression through art. It brings together residents and people with disabilities from the wider community, together with volunteers and staff in a social inclusive project that benefits all.
