The Arthouse artistic talent overcoming disability

The Arthouse is an innovative venture that gives people with multiple disabilities a sense of pride, developing their confidence and creativity.

It will take around 6 months to raise sufficient funds to purchase the necessary packagaing to revamp the Arthouse.

  • Need


    People with epilepsy and other severe disabilities need opportunities to develop skills and confidence by taking part in creative and practical activities that benefit them and others.


    The Arthouse provides opportunities to people with epilepsy and various disabilities to develop skills by working with professional artists. Today modern medicine can control epilepsy to a greater degree, but it's the opportunity for residents and others to take part in various creative activities and develop life skills, that have enabled these individuals to have a real change in outlook and lifestyle. In addition, keeping the mind occupied and stimulated can help to reduce epileptic seizures.

    To make our products more saleable and ultimately make the Arthouse financially independent.


    » To design and make new packaging that makes Arthouse products look more appealing to mainstream and high street retailers.
    » To re-brand the Arthouse with a new look and logo.
    » To re-vamp the Arthouse's website.

    Success will be a higher sales turnover, and higher profit margin to be put directly back in to the charity.

  • Impact


    Turning the Arthouse into an independent and financially viable and independent social enterprise, ultimately being able to provide opportunities to a larger number of clients. With steady income coming in from product sales it would enable the Arthouse to sustain itself and purchase new materials as and when necessary.


    The main risk would be not receiving enough funding to purchase the necessary packaging.

  • Background


    The Arthouse is located at the Meath Epilepsy trust's Day centre in Godalming Surrey.


    The Arthouse is open to Meath residents and other people with disabilities. It is beneficial to these people as it helps them develops skills and confidence. It also benefits the wider community as it gives them some insight into and appreciation of the lives and capabilities of people with epilepsy and other disabilities.

    Why Us?

    Opened in 2005, the Arthouse has become a vibrant and important part of our day centre and is only the second enterprise of its kind in the country. It provides a unique opportunity for people with epilepsy and learning and physical disabilities to develop new skills, confidence and self expression through art. The Arthouse brings together residents and people with disabilities from the wider community. The income generated goes back into the project and artists receive incentive payments.
