Refurbishment of Outdoor Learning Environment

We have been successful in fundraising for some refurbishment to our outdoor area. We would love to continue this work by creating a water-play feature for our children to learn and experiment.

Installation will take a week or two. The benefits will be ongoing for many academic intakes of children

  • Need

We would like to expand the opportunities for our children to be exposed to science and discovery elements of the curriculum. Learning about the flow of water using gulleys and water-wheels which can be used to generate power and enhance the childrens inquisitiveness about how things work.

We have received a quote for a wonderful water play area with a waterfall and stream. This equipment will allow the children to explore and experiment with water and enhance their scientific and exploartion skills.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

To complete our outdoor refurbishment, which will create a fabulous use of the space.

» We continue to fundraise, both internally and externally to achieve our goals in creating the best possible learning environment for our children.

    What success will look like

Success will be...achieving the very best use of the space by providing a wide variety of opportunities for the children to play, learning and explore in the outdoor environment.

  • Impact

The refurbishment will allow staff to enhance the curriculum still further. The nursery is committed to outdoor learning and will use all of the space to provide quality learning and play in this superb outdoor space, which is located in such and urban area. The resources will be used by hundreds of children over the forthcoming years and the nursery will have greater opportunities to share it's facilities and good practice with the wider community and other schools.

There are no risks to the project itself. The school has a status issue and is currently in negotiations with the Local Authority about parity of funding. The school is at no risk of closing, although it's status may affect who accesses the facilities in terms of the wider community.
The school continues to search for a beneficiary who will assist in maintaining the ethos of the school and its charitable nature.

The school issues newsletters and annual reports to donors. They are invited to any significant events relating to the funds raised.

The zone will be located in the schools outdoor science and exploration area. The area will be also house an all-weather canopy, seating, planting areas and sand play. The water zone project would complete this area, giving children access to a wide variety of exploration and experimental opportunities.

The nursery has a cohort of 52 3-4 year olds each year. Children from local schools also access the site via the after-school club. The area is relatively affluent although their are signifcant pockets of deprivation. The school is in an urban area some 4 miles from the City Centre. The redevelopment will provide children with opportunities to experience the outdoor environment. It will also extend the schools ability to offer play and care opportunities to a broader section of the community
