  • Need

Rebound therapy is currently provided using a portable trampoline in the school hall where students have to be hoisted on to it. The hall is also used for many other activities, PE, drama, music, lunch time food and this limits the amount of rebound therapy sessions we are able to offer.

The new facility will incorporate a sunken trampoline in a designated suite to make it safer and more comfortable for the children to access. We will also be able to increase the amount of rebound therapy provision accordingly.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

    - provision of a dedicated rebound therapy suite

» Building project to cover existing courtyard to provide suite with sunken trampoline, overhead tracking and removable floor area.

Success will be measured by improved outcomes for children. Rebound therapy is known to improve confidence, body posture, bowel function, muscle tone, balance.

    Aim 2

    - provision of community trampolining facility

» - offer facility to local community groups, clubs. Generated income will ensure project sustainability.

Success will be measured by the number of groups accessing the facility.

  • Impact

The provision of the suite will mean that more children within school will have increased access to rebound therapy. Regular sessions will impact on the physical and mental abilities of the children and this in turn will improve their ability to learn and achieve to their full potential.

The risks to the project would be refusal of planning permission but extensive consultations have taken place to ensure that the proposed building meets all regulations and adaptations have been made to ensure full compliance.

Donors will receive termly Newsletters and will be invited to the opening of the Suite.

  • Background

Saxon Hill School is located in the Cathedral City of Lichfield, Staffordshire. We cater for children and young people from the age of 2 to 19 who have a wide range of physical disabilities and complex medical needs, some with life limiting conditions. Children come to the school from the whole of the southern half of Staffordshire. The suite will be sited next to our hydrotherapy pool and sensory room.

Lichfield has a population of around 30,000 and is situated roughly 16 miles north of Birmingham. The children attending school come from a wider geographical area including Burton on Trent, Stafford, Cannock, Uttoxeter, Great Wyrley, Tamworth. There are 75 children on roll, 70% of whom are in wheelchairs and 33% eligible for free school meals.
Construction of a new leisure complex in Lichfield has been delayed due to the economic downturn so this faciltiy will benefit the local community.
