June 2011 - July 2011
Raising awareness of South Asian arts and culture, improving integration and respect for diversity. The city's BME arts are promoted in a very adhoc manner. City has a fair share of youth gang culture problem and with negative perception of the Muslims in media posses added problem for the Asian young people in the community.
The festival is youth focussed and it is one way involving young people in an Asian arts project or festival. We are working with schools, community groups and youth services making sure young people have access to professional artists to work with and receive guidance and support to devise cross cultural dance & music pieces to showcase at festival.Festival is FREE, OPEN and will be held at the heart of the city centre, encouraging everyone to attend and share and celebrate Asian arts and cult
Involve young people in positive activities

» Urban Asia - group of young people come together to help organise the festival. They will volunteer to help with publicity, stewarding, back stage
Success will be...in the number of young people take part in the performance and in volunteering and help with publicity and helping on the day.

Promote South Asian arts and culture from India, akistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan
Activities» By working in poartnerships with all the community groups and ensuring they are involved in performing, fundraising, publicity and organising the event
Success will be...if we are able to showcase something from each part of these countries.
Promote Derby as City of vibrant culture
Activities» Ensuring the involvement of the City Council and other strategic arts partners in planning, marketing and publicity
Success will be...if the festival is profiled in the media and press and if we manage to make it an annual event
Long term aim is to make it an annual event in the city. We have already discussed our plan with the City Council who are supportive of the idea in principle and have part funded this festival. We'll be getting an independent evaluator to assess the level of success and how it should be taken forward.
We need to raise £7000 to make the project happen as planned. If we do not raise this amount then we will have scale the project down. We will have to reduce one of the headline acts.
We will invite the doners to attend our festival as guests, they will receive a report of the festival and they can also follow the progress and feedback by logging on our website (website being improved as we speak) and facebook.

Finally Derby as a city which is aiming to apply for City of Culture and this festival will be a positive contribution to that profile.
We have excellent track record of delivering similar projects successfully in 2004, 2007 & 2010. Since then we have developed new partnership links with many organisations, schools, university and community groups who contribute to the successful delivery of the festival. The charity has the ability to reach those people through alternative marketing who would not normally come to a festival of this nature, thus developing new audience for arts and bringing people together.
