We are looking to set up a buddy scheme to enable our disabled members to access as many of our clubs and schemes as possible.
Befriending offers supportive, reliable relationships through volunteer befrienders as well as some staff to people who would otherwise be socially isolated. The results of befriending can be very significant. Befriending often provides people with a new direction in life, opens up a range of activities and leads to increased self-esteem and self confidence as well as providing valuable advice and support for families and carers.
We hope to make a positive impact by introducing people to each other on a friendly, informal yet supportive basis. We would provide a strong emphasis on independence. Each client has different needs and aims, so befrienders and service users work together to identify the steps necessary to achieve these aims. Establishing a successful, trusting relationship can encourage members to feel more confident about making other friends in the future.
To enable members to have social inclusion
Activities» we will provide volunteers or staff to assist them in accessing our clubs and social events.
» Sharing interests and activities whilst doing ordinary things like going for a coffee and having a chat.
» Providing great benefits to parents and carers in need of advice or just someone to talk to.
Success will be...more members accessing our services and events and gaining independence and social inclusion.
The project will benefit current members and will also enable us to recruit new members and volunteers to our Charity. In turn this will make our database larger and success with fundraising will increase with the more people that become aware of the services we provide. We will monitor the service each quarter and make improvements and adjustments as necessary to ensure the service remains successful.
Risks are shortage of volunteers. We will campaign regularly to ensure we have ample 'bank volunteers' to cope with the ever changing demands.
Through our quarterly news magazine, web site, twitter, facebook, beebo and termly club newsletters.
