  • Need

    Need

Homelessness among young people is a big problem in Nottingham, and if those vulnerable young people are not helped they run the risk of being drawn into the dangers associated with rough sleeping - substance misuse, crime, abuse and sex work.

    Solution

Nottingham Nighstop, the main project under Open Homes Nottingham, provides safe emergency overnight accommodation in the homes of trained volunteer families, to young people who are at the point of being homeless or who are living in inappropriate accommodation. Nottingham Nightstop works alongside various trained referral agencies in supporting the young people to find appropriate accommodation to move on to.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

We have one simple aim: to offer safe and welcoming homes to homeless young people.

    Activities

» Nottingham Nightstop aims to prevent vulnerable young adults from slipping into the downward spiral of homelessness and poverty.

Success will be when all the suitable young people referred to us are offered a safe overnight home.

  • Impact

    Impact

Each young person hosted means one less young person sleeping rough and risking the dangers of sleeping on the streets or staying in inappropriate accommodation. Young people who are in work or college have a better chance of staying employed or keeping up with their studies.
Long term changes are harder to demonstrate but we do seek feedback from all the young people we host and from the agencies who referred them to us.

    Risk

Open Homes Nottingham faces a number of risks as an organisation, the main one being funding to keep running our project. We keep sufficient reserves to cover that risk. We also have a robust risk management & assessment policy in place (copy available upon request), and a risk assessment is carried out before a young person is offered a placement with hosts.

    Reporting

We report to grant giving foundations on a project by project basis depending on their requirements.

We report to individual donors via letter/email updates.
We also hold an annual event for volunteers & supporters to keep them up to date with new developments.

  • Why Us?

    Why Us?

We have been running the Nottingham Nightstop project successfully for over 10 years, during which time we have built up good relationships with various referral agencies in the city. We have a group of dedicated volunteers who are experienced and fully trained both as host families/individuals (with whom the young people are placed) and as drivers (who transport the young person to their host)
