New Centre Appeal
Haworth Cat Rescue is raising funds to construct an environmentally friendly and educational rehoming Centre in the Aire Valley for unwanted domestic and feral cats. The purpose built Centre will enable us to run educational programmes that encourage the development of social responsibility and good citizenship through learning about cats. Caring for animals requires discipline, reponsibility, and respect for their needs, laying the foundations for responsible pet ownership.
Yorkshire has one of the worst reputations in the country for animal cruelty convictions. We will play a proactive role in changing this.
Currently we are overwhelmed with calls for help but unable to assist in three quarters of cases due to our financial and physical restraints. In 2008 we took in 399 cats and rehomed 392. Our new Centre will provide us with the extra pens required to meet demand.
As an independent charity with no central funding, we aim to serve the community and eventually become largely self-sufficient through the provision of private boarding, a veterinary clinic, and a pet-friendly coffee shop. Added income will be derived from corporate and private sponsorship of themed cat pens.
