Child Autism UK Helpline
The Child Autism Helpline is a vital resource for often distressed parents of children with autism. Through our experienced team they can access expert and effective advice just when they need it most, enabling parents to best support their children to fulfil their potential.
Charity information: Child Autism UK
Autism Spectrum Disorder affects approximately 1 in 100 people and here in the UK around 100,000 children have been diagnosed. The average delay between parents first seeking help to the point at which diagnosis is received is currently 2 - 3 years and following diagnosis only 56% of parents received a follow up appointment, with 35% receiving no offers of help at all. Therefore, there is clearly a need to help confused and often distressed parents know next steps in order to help their child.
With 20 years experience, our team are on call to give effective advice across a range of topics, including obtaining a diagnosis, finding the right school, accessing funding, dealing with behaviour issues and accessing training/clinics.
On average, we take 600 calls a month.
Parents have said things such as:
The person I spoke to on the phone was extremely friendly and helpful and was very compassionate and understanding of my situation. They provided me with all the information I needed.
To provide expert and effective advice to parents with children with autism.
Activities» Run a national helpline through a team of expert staff. Check parents' satisfaction through our surveys.
What success will look like
Hundred percent parent satisfaction, leading to more children with autism reaching their potential.
Increasing the availability of high quality advice and support, following diagnosis, allowing more children to reach their potential.
We require on-going funding to run the helpline. We rely on donations and small grants and have a rolling programme of applications to small grant-making trusts and continue to be grateful for the on-going help of individual supporters and businesses.
We report through our annual report, published on the Charity Commission's website. Donors can request specific updates, as required.
