Employment out of homelessness

Homelessness is a traumatic experience that takes away a person’s dignity and self-esteem, the longer a person is homeless, the more damaging it can become. Employment is an effective way of rebuilding confidence and skills thereby breaking the cycle of homelessness.

  • Need

The causes of homelessness are many and varied, they affect people in different ways. Its effect however, if not addressed swiftly, can be extremely damaging. Homelessness is a vicious circle that drags people down, compounding problems so that the longer a person is homeless the greater the challenges are to overcome. It affects people’s health both mentally and physically, impacts their relationships and removes all sense of self-worth.

At the heart of our work is an understanding that employment can address many of the issues resulting from homelessness. Being in work helps people put a roof over their heads, pay their bills, meet new friends but most importantly, it helps people rebuild their confidence. Our project is centered on confidence building and has been designed to develop both social and technical skills, build social relationships and provides a range of employment related activities.

  • Impact

People who have experienced homelessness attending above activities.

Reversing the negative cycle of homelessness by creating an environment where people are able to affect positive changes in their lives that enable them to put the experience of homelessness behind them. Fewer people who have experienced homelessness returning to life on the streets.

Homelessness is a complex set of circumstances that cause both emotional distress and practical obstacles to overcome. The risk is that participants may get overwhelmed by these complications and drop out of the programme. We will offer additional help and advice around these issues and access to specialist support in areas of housing, benefits and primary healthcare.

Donors to this project will receive an update on progress and activities by way of a regular newsletter.
