Enthusiasm Youth Programmes
We believe that all young people, regardless of their background or circumstances, deserve the opportunity to make the most of their lives, fulfil their potential and have access to support and relevant activities. We provide mentoring and activity programmes for disadvantaged young people.
Charity information: The Enthusiasm Trust
We work in areas of high economic and social deprivation with issues including poverty, generational joblessness, exclusion and criminality. The young people we work with are socially isolated and excluded and often have complex needs and chaotic family lifestyles. These young people lack access to a wide range of out-of-school activities due to financial constraints, limited transport, low aspirations or a combination of all.
Enthusiasm provides youth activities which are free of charge for the young people to attend, as most of them would not be able to afford to come to the activities if there was a charge. Our specialist youth mentors provide any additional support necessary to enable these young people to access our services. Our programmes provide the young people with an alternative support network, promote a sense of belonging and help to build self-esteem and develop whole-life skills.
Young people will develop confidence and positive life skills
Activities» Universal Interventions – including youth clubs, summer activities, outreach, residentials and youth forums.
» Triple R Mentoring – to develop whole-life skills, confidence and self-esteem, developing resilience and positive coping strategies
What success will look like
We have a number of tools in place to measure our impact on young people and communities and collect monitoring data from our youth clubs, activities and mentoring programmes.
As well as transforming the lives of the young people that we work with, by supporting them to become confident and positive members of the community, the wider effect of our work is clearly evident in the impact Enthusiasm has on the areas and neighbourhoods where we work. We support communities to become places where people choose to live, where young people feel safe and valued and where there are opportunities for them to develop and progress.
If, despite our best efforts, we are unable to raise sufficient funds in the current financial climate to support all of our programmes, we will need to reduce our services whilst we seek and secure additional funding.
We post regular updates on our website and social media regarding our activities.

We will be delivering this project from our base in Allenton, Derby which is an area of high economic and social deprivation with issues including poverty, generational joblessness, exclusion and criminality. The area is ranked within the 20% most deprived neighbourhoods in England. We also deliver in deprived communities within Nottingham and Greater Manchester.
Our programmes benefit young people who are at risk of being exposed to a life of antisocial behaviour, crime, addiction, sexual exploitation and criminal behaviour, resulting in reduced whole life prospects and potential custodial sentence/s and have a beneficial and cohesive effect on the whole community, creating a reduction in anti-social behaviour, improving inter-generational community relations and helping people to feel safer in their neighbourhoods.
We have been working with young people in the local community for 26 years. Our programmes are evidence based and have been externally evaluated. Enthusiasm is recognised by government as an example of best practice in youth work and we belong to the Home Office’s Ending Gang Violence and Exploitation network. This year, Enthusiasm has been awarded the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service in recognition of the work we do with young people in the local community.
