Moments of Magic
This Christmas, Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity is on a mission to make sure moments of magic happen every single day at its hospital – whether that’s the sound of patients giggling, the sight of them playing with their families or ground-breaking pieces of research.

Charity information: Birmingham Children's Hospital Charity
Please help Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity raise an ambitious £25,000 in just eight days, to bring ‘moments of magic’ to its patients.
The charity urgently needs friends like you to help bring magic moments to life at the bedside, whether that’s new sensory toys, musical activities or a visit from a 'Giggle Doctor'.
Entertainment and play really matter at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, giving children the chance to be kids first and patients second, and creating special memories.
Your donation will make a real difference, allowing the charity to put a smile on the face of every kid treated at the hospital. For example:
- A children's entertainer to spend time with a patient making sure they smile
- A distraction bag filled with toys, games and puzzles to keep little ones busy
- A basket of sensory toys for children with epilepsy or learning difficulties
- A special glideaway bed so parents can sleep next to their child
For all patients to be able to laugh, play, have fun and be happy, like any other child.
Activities» Your support will create moments of magic by funding a range of entertainment, toys and specialist equipment to take away fear and anxiety.
What success will look like
Success will be seeing the smiles on the faces of all the children. Each and every child is important and the charity wants them to feel happy, secure and loved.
Research shows that activities such as laughter, singing and listening to music improve our sense of wellbeing. In a hospital environment, these patient experiences can have a huge impact on a child's self esteem, confidence and recovery. Also, these activities can create better memories of being in hospital instead of the focusing on their illness and treatment.
We constantly seek feedback from patients and families to understand how we are performing and how we can improve.
Birmingham Children’s Hospital’s reliance on charitable giving has increased as the Trust strives to deliver projects that go above and beyond NHS standards – pushing boundaries and improving excellence.
The Trust does not have the funds available to pay for moments of magic. There is a risk that without charitable funding they simply will not happen.
The charity is addressing the risk by making these moments of magic a core part of our fundraising strategy for the future.
The campaign will have a high profile on the charity's social media channels and digital platforms, with case studies demonstrating the powerful impact the campaign has – and will have – on children in the hospital. Donors will be updated and thanked personally as the project progresses.
