Patches at east to west
'Patches' is a project born out of east to west's pastoral work in schools. A young person told our team, 'I wish you were always here to talk to...' Sadly we can't be, however, Patches, a small cuddly toy our team gives out is. It's a reminder of all the child has learnt and how much they've grown.
January 2019 - December 2019
Charity information: east to west
We work closely with children and young people and see amazing outcomes in terms of growth and development, however we aren't able to support them through every experience. because it's outside school or no-one is available. By providing a 'Patch' toy, it reminds them that they are not alone and that the learning, techniques and skills they've learned are still there, even if their east to west team member can't be.
Having a physical item which reminds them of good outcomes, positive interactions and improving life experiences makes a massive difference. 'Patch' has been used by young people during police interviews when disclosing rape, children have 'talked' to 'Patch' during Child Protection meetings and it's also been used by students sitting in Exams. 'Patch' helps the children and young people who have one connect to a safe space where they are heard, valued and cared for.
To provide as 'Patches' to as many people we support as are needed
Activities» Provide 500 'Patches' over the course of 2019
What success will look like
Success will be in providing as many 'Patches' as are needed to the children, young people and families we work with and support.
Once given, 'Patches' will remain with that child, young person or family. It will be a constant reminder for them of the changes they've made and how far they've come.
We will demonstrate the impact through anecdotal feedback from recipients as well as through feedback from our team within schools
The biggest risk is in the supply of 'Patches' we have and whether there is a cost change. We have sourced the 'Patches' and will be able to order directly from the supplier. We may choose to order all 'Patches' together rather than on an ad hoc basis to help reduce postage costs.
We will be sharing directly online about the work. If a donor gives us contact details and is happy for us to contact them, we'll also write/email directly to feedback the impact and value of their gift.

east to west work across north Surrey, Windsor and South Bucks. The are itself is a mix of socio-economic groups, with some areas of high income and affluence and other areas of high unemployment, renting and low-paid work.
The reality of our work means that money and location etc... aren't barriers to the challenges and issues they face. High anxiety, low self-esteem, family breakdown and poor mental health don't discriminate, they are prevalent across all spheres of society,
east to west worked with over 1,330 children, young people and families across 2016/17. Indicators are that this year the number will be similar.
This will benefit children, young people and families directly, as well as schools, friends and communities through improvements to behaviour, attitudes and coping strategies.
We're already in place, supporting children, young people and families.
