To subsidise the cost of childcare sessions at £45 per session for disabled children. The grant would enable us to provide the intensive support needed by children who would otherwise be unable to access play sessions that meet their individual needs.

  • Need

    Need

Our mission statement is To relieve children with learning, physical or sensory disabilities and to advance the education and physical development of the said children. The lack of pre-school 1:1 specialist care in Bridgend for disabled children and those with complex needs means that many are left in isolation at home until they reach school age. Children aged 0-4 yrs can achieve much more if they have access to quality care and play opportunities, allowing them to reach their full potential

    Solution

Disabled children and children with complex needs require more intensive childcare support when in the day nursery. The level of need for the majority of our children requires them to have 1:1 support. This in real terms means we employ a higher level of staff than a mainstream nursery to satisfy the ratio of staff to child. The money we raise will allow us to provide this specialist care at a heavily subsidised rate for families of the children

  • Aims

    Aim 1

To continue to provide specialist care at a subsidised rate for disabled children

    Activities

» To provide an additional 130 childcare sessions at a subsidised rate

    What success will look like

The number of sessions that are funded by the grant

  • Impact

    Impact

Additional sessions will be measured in the achievements of the children. We measure outcomes that they achieve in line with ESTYN and the Care Inspectorate for Wales guidelines. Each child will receive an individualised plan and achievements and milestones are recorded and shared with the child (if their disability allows) and their family

    Risk

We will be unable to provide additional subsidised places if we do not receive access alternative funding. We will continue to source alternative methods of funding including applications to Trust funds and donors

    Reporting

We always acknowledge every donation we receive. Each donor receives a formal letter of thanks and recognition, and an invite to visit to see where their money has been spent. We will publicise on our website, social media and through all our press contacts.

  • Background

    Location

A highly regarded small local charity based in South Wales, Y Bont is a registered charity and company limited by guarantee, originally founded in 1994 by a small group of families who identified the need for an accessible and safe provision for disabled children. Following a period of fund-raising, the purpose-built centre in Bridgend was opened in September 1997 with 15 families accessing the provision.

    Beneficiaries

Disabled children aged 0-4 years will receive 1:1 specialised childcare in a fun, safe environment. The parents and extended families of the children will also benefit by having access to fadcilities, advice and peer support from other parents who also have disabled children.

  • Why Us?

    Why Us?

Since its inception the core activity at Y Bont has adapted and changed in response to needs highlighted by families. Y Bont is now recognised as a unique and highly regarded provision in the South Wales community; it is particularly important as the only support service in the region which focuses on early intervention for young disabled children and their families which works to prevent escalation of need. For many vulnerable families struggling to cope Y Bont provides a crucial lifeline
