25th Anniversary Performance Project

To use our 25th Anniversary to celebrate the power of singing to support the needs of children. We will be delivering a number of inspiring workshops for children aged 7-11 in some of the most disadvantaged areas of England, which will culminate in enriching performance opportunities.

  • Need

    Need

For this project, we will be focusing on schools that are in areas of England that statistically have below average levels of arts engagement. Often where cultural opportunities are available, they are unobtainable often due to a lack of disposable income. Within these areas, cultural opportunities are scarce and access to the arts is limited. We want to increase the number of children engaging with the arts through performance opportunities in order to improve their life choices.

    Solution

This project is a vital opportunity for children to experience art and culture in their local community. Participating children will have the opportunity to develop their musical and singing skills and perform in local concerts, all of which will contribute to a highly engaging experience. Through this project, we aim to raise the aspirations of the children involved by giving them the chance to experience a sense of achievement and pride which they may not have had before.

  • Aims

    Aim 1

Inspire new audiences and CYP through singing.

    Activities

» Deliver inspirational workshops in schools and hubs with CVP who we have not previously worked with us before.
» Arrange and hold concerts in schools and Music Education Hubs across England

    What success will look like

Success will be measured by the number of CYP with whom we will work during the project, hat we have not worked with before. The project aims to reach 9,170 CYP aged 7-14.

    Aim 2

Upskill non-specialist teachers to lead performance projects

    Activities

» Our specialist practitioners will deliver effective CPD for all participating teachers.

    What success will look like

Teachers will feel confident in the skills they have learnt, to lead effective singing.

    Aim 3

Commission new, accessible music and have it performed nationwide

    Activities

» We have commissioned David Bruce to compose a 3-5 song called 'Song of Until', and to arrange a patch work of folksongs from around the world.

    What success will look like

9,170 CYP aged 7-14 will be involved and will reach audiences of 6400 nationwide.

  • Impact

    Impact

This project offers new opportunities for the Voices Foundation to extend our work to include the programming of concerts as well as focusing on developing audiences in the communities with which we work. As part of the programming of public performances in these areas, we will be supporting the marketing to ensure the attendance of the local community. This will also include signposting the audience to further opportunities to engage with the arts in their community.

    Risk

One risk is that the repertoire that CYP will be exposed to will already be known to them. We will mitigate the risks by discussing this will all teachers involved to ensure we broaden all CVP's horizons.

    Reporting

We will provide a written report to our donors at the end of the project in August 2019, outlining the successes, challenges and legacy of the project.
We will also report via social media, local media and our quarterly supporters newsletter.
