Lymphoma Action Helpline

Lymphoma is the fifth most common cancer in the UK, but is not well known. To extend the reach of our helpline which is open five days a week, throughout the year, with nearly 3000 enquiries per annum (either by phone, email or Live Chat), providing much-needed information and emotional support.

    Need

    it is essential that we increase the reach of our helpline to be able to help even more of the 125,000 people in the UK who are living with lymphoma so that we can ensure that nobody faces their lymphoma alone. Our telephone helpline, live chat and email services offer vital support and detailed information to those worried they have lymphoma; have been newly diagnosed with lymphoma; are caring for someone with a lymphoma diagnosis; are in treatment or have had a relapse.

    Solution

    The Helpline Freephone is open Monday to Friday 10am to 3pm and provides a vital service to people affected by lymphoma. In 2017, about 3000 people contacted us directly for help and support, approximately two-thirds 66% of those via phone, and 20% used our online chat service (accessible via our website). Our team of Information and Support Officers also support people through email and our online forums and social media.

    Risk

    1. Staff leaving and needing to be retrained. To reduce affects we have an excellent recruitment and induction process in place
    2. Lack of Funding, we apply to a wide range of funders.
    3. People not aware of our service- we have an active marketing plan in place

    Reporting

    We can report to donors through specific updates on the progress of the project and through our annual report and website.
