Support Central's new Studio Theatre
Central is planning an exciting move to bespoke new premises housing our first ever in-house Studio Theatre. By funding the theatre seating you will help create an invaluable resource to enhance our world-leading training and a world-class venue for vibrant school and community productions.
December 2018 - July 2019
Charity information: Central School of Ballet
Over 1,200 people use Central’s Herbal Hill studios each week. Whilst much-loved, we have outgrown the space it can offer. Central needs facilities that match the expectations of a world-leading dance school and give us the space to grow, to nurture creativity and allow talent to blossom. An in-house Studio Theatre is top of the list to enrich the life of the School. It will transform training and rehearsals, cut spend on theatre hire and introduce the first onsite productions.
Central is moving to a state-of-the-art, purpose-built, and very much needed, new home in London’s flourishing arts community on the South Bank. The shell of our Studio Theatre is already in place: we need your help to fit it out to world-class standards to create an amazing resource for the future stars of dance theatre who train at the School. By funding the theatre seating you can make the dream a reality and inspire diverse audiences with vibrant School and community productions.

What success will look like
Success is a new Studio Theatre used to train 115 students studying towards our unique degree & deliver an inspiring dance productions programme & a thriving community programme.
The Studio Theatre will be an invaluable resource for generations of students – the future stars of dance theatre – transforming training and rehearsals, and enriching performance experience. It will be a state-of-the-art venue for professional dance theatre supporting decades of future School and Ballet Central performances, wider dance/arts productions, and community events/productions. These will inspire diverse audiences including schools, young people and the local community.
With all large multi-stage projects, despite the best plans there is potential for some changes to timescales. Once the School is in its new home and the Studio Theatre is open we are confident of the success of planned programmes. It will take time to engage the local community in the life of the School but with our thriving programme to widen access and participation behind us (locally in partnership with LB Southwark), we are confident in putting Central at the heart of Southwark.
Supporters can opt-in to receive a bi-annual newsletter, which will share highlights from the project, and the schedule for public events in the new Studio Theatre. We would be delighted to welcome them to a performance. Regular highlights can also be found on social media.
