Need
Need
1 in 2 of us will receive a diagnosis of cancer during our lifetime costing the NHS £5bn annually in cancer services.
We know (from our partnership with WHO) that around 40% of the most common cancer cases are preventable such as through eating a healthy diet, being active and maintaining a healthy weight. For e.g, 30% of breast cancer cases in the UK could be prevented.
The cancer risks and how to reduce them are not well known and thus not being turned into action quick enough to save lives.Solution
We want to ensure that our lifesaving information helping people reduce their risk of developing cancer, reaches the largest number of people.
Our model will provide the latest advice to Health Professionals, for them to help more people in local communities to make positive lifestyle choices and reduce their cancer risk, helping people to live longer and save the NHS time and money. -
Aims
Aim 1
Recruit 20 new HPCs over 2 years to educate other Health Professionals on how to prevent cancer.
Activities
» After a formal application process we will select HPCs who show their commitment to delivering cancer prevention awareness training.
What success will look like
20 Health Professionals will be recruited, trained and have delivered 80 talks/training in 2 years
20,000 cancer prevention publications distributed to those at high risk.

Impact
Impact
If we can prove behaviour change through successfully meeting this specific outcome '65% of members of the public make positive changes to their lifestyles and maintain these for up to 6 months after receiving the information from Health Professionals', we will know that the model has been a success.
Analysed through questionnaires, informal check-ups and diet plans.Risk
The risk could be that we are unable to recruit our target number of HPCs. In mitigation, we have piloted this scheme and have planned this scheme based on learnings from our pilot. Between July 2015 & December 2016, approx 15 Health Professionals were recruited to our Champions programme. Most were engaged at regional workshop events delivered by our Health Promotion Manager in Manchester, London, Bristol, Glasgow and Liverpool, but stopped due to staff restructure and travel constraints.
Reporting
Yearly progress report, e-newsletter and donors can request our publications e.g on our cancer prevention recommendations.
