We want to further develop our support for families and children who are affected by the imprisonment of a family member. The money raised will enable us to further raise awareness of the impact of imprisonment on families with the general public and also to directly support families
Charity information: Out There Supporting Families Of Prisoners Limited
Families left outside when a family member is imprisoned feel the burden of a 'hidden sentence'. This includes the emotional and mental health impacts of being separated from a family member and also the practical implications including impact on incomes. The multiplicity of these problems can be overwhelming for family members and they can find it hard to access support to counteract their isolation.
Our team work directly with the family offering a listening and non-judgemental ear to support them through a difficult time. Practically they offer advice and signposting to help them sort out benefits, debts etc etc. The project will enable us to continue and develop this vital family support
To offer support to families affected by the imprisonment of a family member.
Activities» One to one advice and guidance to help family members with a range of issues from finance to housing and emotional and stress issues.
» Group and Family activities to support wellbeing.
What success will look like
By the number of families we have supported in the period of the project
The long term benefit will be the resilience of the families coping with this difficult situation. We will demonstrate this by getting feedback from the families who are supported by our services.
The biggest risks is the availability of enough combined funding to deliver the service. We have dealt with this by developing a 3 year business plan for the organisation and implementing a new leadership structure to ensure long term sustainability.
